Celebrating Arrow’s Olicity: Top 5 Moments of Felicity and Oliver’s Love Story

Arrow

Every Day is Olicity Day

Let’s be honest, there’s never a wrong time to celebrate the love between Arrow’s Felicity Smoak and Oliver Queen. Their relationship is one of the most captivating on television, as they understand and support each other in ways that only true soulmates can. Just one glance at the way they look at each other is enough to see that their connection is genuinely special. And what better day to celebrate their love than on Valentine’s Day, the day dedicated to romantic love?

With challenging times ahead for our favorite couple, let’s take a trip down memory lane and revisit five of the best Olicity moments from the show. These scenes will remind us of the happy times they shared, even as they face upcoming trials and tribulations.

1. The First Encounter

From the moment Felicity appeared on screen, it was evident that the character was something special. So special, in fact, that a one-off appearance turned her into arguably the current female lead of the show. The producers, actors, and audience could see it, and of course, Oliver could see it too. In their first meeting, he was immediately captivated by this ray of light in his otherwise dark life. Since then, she’s brought so much brightness to his world that it’s hard to imagine he was ever the man he was at the beginning. Later in the series, Oliver reminisced about this moment, claiming that Felicity was the first person he truly saw as a person since returning from the island. If that’s not enough to make a top five moments list, I don’t know what is.

2. Oliver Saves Felicity from the Count

Some of the best Olicity moments happened before they were even a couple when their bond was just as strong, but they weren’t ready to acknowledge their feelings yet. This was one of those moments. With a new leaf turned, Oliver was determined not to kill anymore, mostly due to the influence that Felicity and Diggle had on him. But when Felicity’s life was threatened by the Count, Oliver didn’t hesitate to put not just one, but three arrows right through him, ending his life. Later in the episode, Oliver explained, “He had you and he was going to hurt you. There was no choice to make.” This moment also proved that there was no choice to make for the majority of the audience, who fell more in love with the love between Oliver and Felicity.

3. “You are not alone. And I believe in you.”

This scene was crucial for Oliver and Felicity on so many levels, and to this day, I can’t watch it without being absolutely blown away by the performances from Stephen Amell and Emily Bett Rickards. In this moment, when Oliver was doubting himself and his entire mission up until that point, Felicity was there for him as his strength and support, giving him the belief and drive he needed to continue fighting. They connected on such an emotional level in this scene, even then sharing things with each other that they wouldn’t be able to share with anyone else. Felicity’s speech to Oliver was so passionate and convincing that even he, who struggles to see the good he’s doing, was determined to go forth and save the city.

4. Their First Time Making Love

It’s no surprise that this moment made my list of favorite Olicity scenes. With everything on the line and knowing that they’d most likely be separated soon, the couple finally took the big step we’d been waiting three seasons for them to take. It was a beautiful moment between them as they physically acknowledged their love for the first time. The little details in this scene, such as Oliver removing Felicity’s glasses, made the scene even more perfect. Add to that the fact that this was the first time Felicity told Oliver that she loved him, this truly was a special moment for the couple.

5. “For Better or for Worse”

This is the most subtly beautiful scene that made my list, but there was just so much emotion in it that it needed to be here. Oliver spent the first half of this episode afraid to visit Felicity, not wanting to see her until he had taken down the man who had done this to her, Damien Darhk. But when he finally did make his way to the hospital, the two proved exactly why so many of us fell in love with this couple. There’s nothing more heart-wrenching than the single tear that tracked down Felicity’s face as she, afraid and vulnerable, asked Oliver if he still wanted to be with her. His quick reassurance that he would stick with her “for better or for worse” along with Amell’s brilliantly adlibbed line about how they never should have taken the ring off of Felicity’s finger, made this scene that much stronger, as it more than reaffirmed the love between them. Hopefully, in the coming episodes, the two will remember that they promised to be with each other for better or for worse, as they are about to face some of the most challenging moments in their relationship.

There are undoubtedly many more Olicity moments that could make this list, and surely there will be more to come. What are some of your favorite moments between the couple? We’ll all need this happy place to go to during the upcoming angst for our favorite couple.
