One of the biggest shows on The CW and one of the most important series in the comic book television genre right now is Arrow. As you may have seen at last week’s San Diego Comic-Con, the upcoming fourth season of Arrow is going to be a brighter and different year for the show, as Oliver begins his transition from the Arrow into the Green Arrow. One of Oliver’s on-and-off again allies is Captain Quentin Lance (played by Paul Blackthorne), who turned on the Arrow after learning that he and his daughter Laurel (played by Katie Cassidy) had kept his daughter Sara’s death a secret from him.
TVOvermind was fortunate enough to participate in the Arrow Press Room at San Diego Comic-Con with other news outlets at roundtables, where stars and producers from the show discussed what is coming up in Season 4. Blackthorne was one of the people we got to talk to, and you watch the entire interview with him below. Here are some highlights:
What is Quentin’s relationship with his daughter Laurel like in Season 4 after this past year: “Yeah, I think that’s the case now [about forgiving Laurel]. Their relationship was reconciled. Lance did some terrible things to her. I always think of the baiting when he used her as bait back in Season 1 to get the Arrow. Lance has got to make up for that one! If she did what she did last year by not telling him about his other daughter, he kind of goes, ‘You screwed up, I screwed up, we are both screw ups. Let’s just move on!’ She is all he has got so he desperately wants to move on with her.”
When asked how Quentin looks at Oliver and vigilantes after the season finale: “You know, it was just two episodes [when commenting about viewers’ reacting to Quentin’s behavior towards Oliver]. It was two episodes, that’s all it was! Once he found out that his daughter [Laurel] didn’t tell him, that the Arrow hadn’t told him [about his daughter Sara being dead], it was like, ‘Yeah I am going to get this guy now!’ But obviously they were happily working together in cahoots up until that point, but it seemed to make quite the impact! [Laughs] On my social media, people were going, ‘We love you, we love you, but Lance is being such a dick right now!’ For two episodes, the word ‘dick’ was certainly one of the most commonly used words throughout the rest of the season. But yeah, he will move on as well.”
Arrow Season 4 begins on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 8 p.m. on The CW. Stay tuned for more roundtable videos of the cast and producers in the next few days right here at TVOvermind.
