Appreciating the Impressive Career of Denise Crosby

Denise Crosby, if you’re guessing, is in fact the granddaughter of the famed Bing Crosby and has been a noted actress for much of her life. In fact she got her start back in 1979 with an uncredited role before waiting to return to film in the early 80s. A lot of folks probably don’t realize that she had a rather extensive career before she would settle into what some might have thought was going to be a long-term run with Star Trek, but she’s been working in the industry for a while. Her father was an actor as well and no doubt had at least some influence upon her life, but sadly she never met her grandfather it sounds like. Be that as it may, Denise has been making her presence known for some time and has been proving to be a welcome addition wherever she’s popped up.

Star Trek: Next Generation

As Tasha Yar she was actually one of the favored crew members of the Enterprise for a while and seemingly had a lot of people that backed her. When this series came out she was one of those that people locked onto for some reason. Needless to say a lot of people were devastated when she was taken off the show, and conspiracy theories abounded no matter that it was a very simple matter of her wanting to leave. Behind that however was the reality that she felt the Uhura syndrome kicking in, she was basically just stage dressing and wasn’t being allowed to voice any of the ideas she had for her character. That alone might seem like a good reason to call it a day. But she would come back to the series eventually as a Romulan, meaning she wasn’t the same character despite the fact that everyone recognized her immediately.

Pet Sematary

A lot of grieving mothers wouldn’t be able to step away from their undead child that’s WIELDING A SCALPEL. Rachel obviously wasn’t in her right mind as she saw her sweet little boy toddling towards her, WIELDING A SCALPEL. “I’ve got something for you mommy” should never have been a call to go and hug your child when he’s HOLDING A SCALPEL. But then of course she goes and hugs the kid and the next thing you hear is the cutting of flesh and Rachel’s horrified and pained screams as we’re given a vision of Gage just as the truck that killed him is bearing down on the poor tyke. Of course Rachel’s well-meaning but arrogant husband decides to bury her in the cemetery as well and, well, you get the idea of how that turned out.

The Walking Dead

You might have had to really look beneath the dark hair and through the dirt to see it, but this was Denise Crosby on The Walking Dead. And lo and behold she’s one of the cannibalistic members of Terminus that took to luring people in so that they could take their stuff and make the best use of their bodies as a food source. Do you think perhaps that once they were dead and being prepared that the virus that was already inside everyone was still working its way through their systems? Granted, cooking does manage to kill a lot of things and it seems like it might fry the virus that turns people into walkers, but it’s still an interesting question that only got brought up sparingly throughout the tenure of the Terminus residents. But honestly, Mary’s troubles were a little more dire than that random thought since Carol decided to show just how cold-blooded she could really be in this scene.

Denise has had a long and pretty successful career given that she’s been able to play so many different characters and create a following all her own that has included so many loyal fans. People still talk about her in regards to Star Trek since let’s face it, that’s where she really started getting popular, even when her character was killed off. People still talk about her and still enjoy the idea of her characters in more than one film or TV show since she is a great actress and is able to convey just enough attitude to really push the character that she’s playing at the time.

She’s still doing her thing to this day and is still attending conventions which is great since people still recognize her and want an autograph and a picture and, if possible, to pick her brain a bit about the old days. It’s very evident that she’s up on the fandom of the horror and scifi genres and knows how to cater to both. A good actor will understand that the fans are their only way of being truly remembered, and Denise gets it without a doubt.
