She was looking to be number one in her field and for a while it seemed like Gina Lollibrigida had found her spotlight in her chosen field of acting. You might not know who she is depending on where you come from but if you’re from her era and are Italian the name might ring a lot of bells. Gina was born to a furniture manufacturer and his wife, and her parents honestly didn’t have much to do with her fame since a talent scout was the one that saw greatness in her and decided to try and get her interested. The only problem was that Gina wasn’t interested at all at first and took it as a joke, quoting a price for her services that would have seemed outrageous at the time. Yet she got what she asked for and yet still didn’t seek out the spotlight even when she was in it. One might say in a stereotypical way that it’s the fact that she’s Italian but honestly and truthfully this just seems to be the way the woman was and still is since at the age of 91 she still knows how to hold a grudge and to appear as though she doesn’t want the limelight even if she accepts it readily.
There are a few things that might have rankled some people and ruffled some feathers along the path she took, but to this day she still amends that she wanted to be the best, and for a while it seemed as though she reached that pinnacle.

She was given an offer by Howard Hughes to act in Hollywood in the 1950s.
This could have and kind of did seriously limit her career since traveling to the states could have helped her immensely. But it could have been the downfall of her career as well so it’s really hard to know just what might have happened. Plus it didn’t stop her from participating in US projects that were brought to Europe as she gained a great deal of notoriety through this practice. Of course by 1959 she did start appearing in American films and was well-received for the most part since she had the look, the attitude, and the skill on the set to make people stand up and pay attention. While a lot of people these days don’t remember her the cinematic evidence of her greatness is still around if people care to look. The same could be said of many famous faces and personalities that were popular back in her time, and thankfully the films are still there to be watched if a person so chooses.
She’s had a long-running feud with fellow actress Sophia Loren for years.
If if you ask Gina she might roll her eyes and state that there was nothing to this except whatever Sophia’s people came up with to start the feud in the first place. Yet she didn’t exactly let it die by keeping it on the back burner for so many years. One might say she condemned it while at the same time stoking the fires when she thought no one was looking. Whether or not the feud has been going on for so long largely because it seems fashionable or trendy is hard to know but Gina did manage to throw some shade at Sophia on her 90th birthday it would seem. Though given that the media controls what goes out and what people see it’s really hard to know how real it is at this point. Eventually you’d think that people would figure “we’re too old for this stuff”.
Whether you like her or not she does seem a bit conceited and owns it proudly.
She’ll admit she’s spoiled and that she’s had a lot of stuff given to her throughout the years but she’ll also, speaking of herself in the third person sometimes, declare that she’s had to work for a lot of what she has and has had to succeed in a man’s world for many, many years to get to where she is now. There’s no doubt that Gina has some sort of inner strength and a very stubborn nature that doesn’t allow her to just back down. This has made her an inspiration long before now and has managed to show women that they can and should stand up to men that are in elevated positions and can offer them the world so long as they give those men what they want. Gina has successfully resisted many powerful men throughout her life and will gladly talk about it to those who will listen. And to be honest some of the names on her list will impress many people since those men she’s refused in the past were quite powerful in their own time.
She’s an inspiration to be sure.
