What should have happened already is going to happen in the next installment of [easyazon_link identifier=”B011DHP3GY” locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Ant Man[/easyazon_link] as the movie Ant Man and the Wasp is set to come to theaters eventually. It’s been reported that shooting for the film just started today and from the photos that have been released of Evangeline Lilly it’s safe to say that the character of Janet van Dyne is going to be ripped and ready to go. Fans of the MCU are likely to have all sorts of feedback on this development as the Wasp was supposed to be a part of Marvel canon from the get go when the Avengers came out but the character was never even discussed it seems. Hardcore fans were more than a little incensed at the omission of such a great character and it’s no doubt that they’ll be pumped to see her in the sequel.
After all, there are some things about the Wasp that casual observers won’t understand unless they read the comics.
The Wasp and Ant Man were two of the founding members of the original [easyazon_link identifier=”B009GEBBNQ” locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Avengers[/easyazon_link].
In the comics they were there before even [easyazon_link identifier=”B005PW3OS8″ locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Captain America[/easyazon_link] showed up. Back in the 1960’s when the team was first formed the star-spangled captain wasn’t a member quite yet, but he showed up quickly to take over the leadership position. However, thanks to movie-making the Wasp and Ant Man were no longer core members of the group, and even in the current version Ant Man and Captain America aren’t even members. It’s understandable for directors to want to do their own version of events, but a core team should be kept intact really.
In the Ultimates Janet van Dyne, or Janet Pym, however you want to see it, was a mutant that could alter her size without the suit.
It was a different take on the Wasp that a lot of people hadn’t seen or thought of yet. There weren’t a lot of mutants in the Avengers to begin with and the inclusion of a few throughout the years wasn’t taken with great enthusiasm, largely because the mutants that joined had already come from another team. Beast and Wolverine are two good examples of those that had come from well-established teams, but the Wasp had always been with the Avengers. They simply didn’t know about her mutation or didn’t care to discuss it. Somehow I doubt we’ll see that in the movie.
Janet van Dyne is tougher than her appearance would indicate.
She’s in awesome shape as you can see right now, but in the past Evangeline Lilly didn’t really look like she could rip into someone as easily as she did in the movies. Granted it’s all stunts and special effects but she pulled it off beautifully by making it look great. It’s going to be really interesting to see what the sequel has to offer in terms of her physicality and her acting skills considering that she’s laid down a good deal of groundwork in the first movie.

Can’t wait to see what she does and who she does it to in the sequel.
