Annette Bening Takes Role In FX’s “Katrina: American Crime Story”

American Crime Story is one of the biggest series on television right now.  After taking on the OJ Simpson trial in “The People vs. O.J. Simpson” the series won much acclaim for not only the story but the incredible performances from the likes of Sarah Paulson, Sterling K. Brown, and Cuba Gooding Jr.   The FX hit series is not done yet.  Next they’ll be taking on the events that transpired in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina.   In addition to Katrina the studio has also confirmed they’ll be taking on the murder of fashion designer Gianna Versace.  While Versace is further along in production, the studio says that Katrina will air first.  According to Uproxx, Annette Bening is the first big name to be attached to Katrina:

Annette Bening will be playing governor Kathleen Blanco, the first woman elected to the role in Louisiana. Blanco spent so much time struggling with the fallout of Katrina, and Hurricane Rita, which arrived less than a month later, that she ultimately chose not to pursue a second term. It should be noted that anybody would be burned out, as Katrina and Rita destroyed 200,000 homes between them, closed 81,000 businesses, and destroyed crucial infrastructure.

So far there’s no word on any other names that will be in Katrina but Bening is a great first choice.   Like The People vs. O.J. Simpson, taking on Katrina is risky so we’re hoping the show went to the arduous lengths it did in researching the O.J. trial.  I have a feeling that FX will want to put its best foot forward after the success of their first American Crime Story installment.  We’ll keep you posted on Katrina as more news unfolds.
