You could say that Amerigeddon is a good attempt by filmmakers to drum up enough fear in people that something untoward like this could possibly happen. The US government hasn’t been above doing some pretty shady things in the past, even to its own people it would seem. But to incite open war upon its own people as a means of bringing about peace and securing the nation in the interests of those that want to make a profit off of it, well, that’s just horrifying enough to pay attention to. But of course in any situation like this, real and fictional, you’re going to get bands of people that know how to survive and know how to fight back. You also have to realize that the loyalty of those that serve the US government and their military is going to be sorely tested since some of them have family that would gladly take up the fight and tell the government “no more”. What then? How much of a war would America be willing to endure before it would be too much? How much influence would a global terrorist ring be allowed to have upon a country that was founded upon the need to stand together?
Well, you might just have to watch the film and see. Until then, here are ten things you might not have known about it.
10. The plot is similar to Red Dawn.
There is a foreign influence involved after all, but the violence seems to be done by the American military with the government working behind the scenes trying to bring about a new world order. Many people seem to think this will never happen and we can only hope that they’re right, but given that our country has been chipping away at itself throughout the decades it’s getting harder to deny that something might be ready to pop off.
9. America is basically at war with itself.
Despite the foreign influence you can clearly see US military personnel questioning people and standing against their own countrymen in an act of lunacy that seems too much to be believed. This film definitely pushes boundaries that many would hope would never be pushed in real life. Pushing back would only be a natural response for some people, but for others the push would only be the start.
8. It was directed by Mike Norris.
The son of Chuck Norris seems to be leaning towards a rather political stance in this movie, but it could be that he’s in it more for the entertainment value than anything. After all people love these kind of films since it leaves them thinking that as strong as the US government is they’re not about to test the resolve of their people.
7. The movie took the Obama speech about people governing themselves and switched it around.
So instead of being inspiring the speech becomes something that you not only shake your head at, but something that sends chills down your spine as you wonder just far the USA has to fall before it hits rock bottom. Some people might be wondering that already these days since despite the good things that still happen there have still been enough real world atrocities that are taking place.
6. The UN helo belongs to an air charter company.
The helicopter is made to look good at least in the film and gives it an air of authenticity that would probably pass muster for anyone that’s never been in the military. But like most movies such as this it’s likely that veterans and active members of the military would be able to tell you the difference.
5. The film was shot in various parts of Texas.
Do you get the feeling that a lot of Texans, people who love their guns and wouldn’t give them up for anyone, kind of liked this movie? It’s presumptuous to say so but being as they did shoot in Texas it does beg the question of whether or not the locals happened to enjoy the idea of a movie that shows people fighting back against a government that’s out of control.
4. Locals were recruited as extras.
You can’t exactly say that the average Texan would be excited for this, but chances are just being in a movie was enough. A lot of people from any state would gladly sign up to be an extra in a film like this. Some might even do it for free.
3. A few reviewers thought that it carried a powerful message.
Online reviewers seemed to think that it was worth watching and conveyed something that all Americans should pay attention to and take heed of. If we enter another Civil War they can say they were right. Until then, the conspiracy theorists can keep their fingers on the keys punching out their various thoughts.
2. Apparently Rotten Tomatoes didn’t chime in on it.
That’s not something you commonly see since Rotten Tomatoes has been chiming on so many movies for so long that it seems there is opinion is stamped everywhere.
1. It made well over a quarter of a million at the box office.
There’s no word on what the budget was but it couldn’t have been too cheap. It could have been buried in the DVD’s and Blu-Ray discs largely because it wasn’t big budget.
We can only hope it never comes to this.
