Ryan Murphy shared some somewhat vague but still very intriguing details about American Horror Story Season 6 during the PaleyFest panel for the FX anthology series on Sunday. When questioned about the upcoming season of the show, Murphy explained that, although the writers haven’t fully decided on which idea they’ll be using for Season 6, both of the ones they are considering include “elements of children.”
“The interesting thing about this season is we’ve been working on two ideas at once, which we’ve never done,” Murphy said during the panel. “So I don’t want to say what it maybe is…. Both things that we’re writing right now — we haven’t declared a winner — will have a different form, so we’re excited about that. We’ll talk about it soon, but we haven’t landed on it yet.”
But why will the idea of children be such a key component to American Horror Story Season 6? What makes Murphy and the writers want to have them be one of the season’s main elements?
“If you look at horror tropes, the innocence of children, that sort of wide-eyed entryway into some world is always very dramatic and satisfying,” Murphy told the audience.
American Horror Story wrapped up its fifth season, Hotel, back in January. While only Lady Gaga has confirmed that she will back in some capacity in American Horror Season 6, Murphy has made it clear that all of Hotel‘s cast members, including Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Denis O’Hare, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, Cheyenne Jackson, and Finn Wittrock, have been invited back to the series.
American Horror Story Season 6 will premiere this fall on FX. Murphy’s other project for the cable network, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, on which he serves as an executive producer and director, is currently nearing the end of its critically-acclaimed first season.
