Agents of SHIELD has had a long and compelling season and following the events of Captain America: Civil War, this week’s episode featured Coulson and his team finally getting a win against Hive, but at a big cost. Be aware of some spoilers from the latest Captain America film that opened in theaters last week.
While I wasn’t expecting any surprise cameos from Captain America: Civil War, I was satisfied with how the event of the film was reflected on the show in a very organic way. Talbot serving as that government figure worked so well because of his previous history and appearances on the show. Plus, as the big Adrian Pasdar fan that I’m, it’s always fun to see him and Clark Gregg share the screen together with their banter and wit. I’m just glad that Talbot for once didn’t cause any problems because the least he could have given to Coulson by getting to come into S.H.I.E.L.D., is to at least let Coulson and his team do what they needed to do without getting in the way, unless it became necessary.
There are many reasons why I don’t watch and never will give The Walking Dead a viewing and this episode of Agents of SHIELD made me want to stay away even more. It was quite the surprise that those test subjects turned into these zombie-like looking versions of Inhumans that seems to be a “primitive” version of this race. I’m not certain if this is based on a comic version of the Inhumans because I don’t recall them looking like this, although I’m not the well-versed on Inhumans anyway. It was also freaky seeing Daisy so pale and almost dead-like because of how much blood she had been drained off, which makes me hate Hive more (in a good way since we are supposed to hate him).
The whole double-plan with Lincoln tricking Daisy to believe that he wanted to leave S.H.I.E.L.D. and come to her, was a classic Agents of SHIELD move. Although I will admit that I was yelling at the screen several times before the reveal because Lincoln appeared to be thinking more with his heart than his head in this situation. So when we learned that he had in fact sent Lash on that Quinjet instead, I was extremely relieved because I just didn’t want to be annoyed with Lincoln at this point in the game. Seeing Lash getting Hive down and Un-Hive Daisy was a surprising moment because I didn’t know he would be the key to saving Daisy. Unfortunately, it came at a price as Hellfire fire-chained poor Lash which immediately kills him. While I’m not completely shocked, I wish they had spent more time on the loss of him because I doubt next week will have time for it.
The post-credit scene between Mack and Yo-Yo has me more concerned now that Mack is in fact the character that will be getting into that ship and sent to space before it kills him as we recall that flashforward that Daisy has been seeing. Things will without doubt get intense in the season finale next week, but overall, “Emancipation” was a solid episode that does setup things for the finale very nicely. Let’s just hope that we don’t have to see too many of those zombie-Inhumans because man, I just can’t!
