The Ghostfacers – who first appeared in the season 1 episode “Hell House” and then appeared again in the self-titled episode in season 3 of Superntural – are going to be made into a web series.
The original Ghostfacers consisted of Ed Zeddmore (played by AJ Buckley) and Harry Spengler (played by Travis Wester), who met up with the Winchester brothers when they inadvertently helped “summon” a spirit through stories on their website. The team expanded in season 3 to a “semi-professional” (and I use that term loosely) group who again met up with the brothers when investigating a haunted house. Oh yeah, and there was a brief appearance in season 4 in the alternate reality episode “It’s a Terrible Life”, although Zeddmore and Spengler only appeared in instructional ghost fighting videos on the brothers’ computer. Needless to say, the Ghostfacers have fans. Enough fans to warrant a web series.
According to a press release sent out today by the CW:
The world’s greatest self-proclaimed ghost hunters are back on the case, now in an original digital series for both TheWB.com and CWTV.com. A shortform brand extension of the hit CW/Warner Bros. Television series “Supernatural,” “Ghostfacers” will focus on a team of fearless and sometimes comical “professional” ghost hunters who investigate the paranormal and record their own adventures in documentary-style episodes. The team originally made their debut during the first season of “Supernatural” in the episode ‘Hell House,’ and later appeared in a self-titled episode during season three.
In this first installment of the new series, the “Ghostfacers” investigate the haunting of a local theatre by the ghost of a young starlet – played by Kelly Carlson (“Nip/Tuck”) – who, according to legend, was murdered in front of her dressing room mirror.
The series is currently in production in Los Angeles with an initial run of 10 three-minute episodes. Fans will have access to ancillary content on TheWB.com and CWTV.com, including gag reels and actor confessionals, behind-the-scenes video clips, photo galleries and more. Fans hungry for more “Ghostfacers” mythology can find additional images, character bios and video on the “Ghostfacers” website www.Ghostfacers.com).
Also expect to see the other two Ghostfacers team members who survived that haunted house – Maggie Zeddmore (played by Brittany Ishibashi) and Kenny Spruce (played by Austin Basis.
I, for one, am psyched by this news. I know that not everyone liked the “Ghostfacers” episode, but I did and I really like these guys, so I think this will be a lot of fun. It’s also cool to see networks like the CW branching into the web series arena. The internet is the future, people (or so they tell me), so to see networks coming up with new ways to spin-off and promote their series on the web is always a good thing.
