Christian Slater’s Unfortunate TV Streak Continues
It seems like Christian Slater just can’t catch a break when it comes to television. Back in 2008, his action-drama series, NBC’s My Own Worst Enemy, was canceled after a brief run of just nine episodes. Hoping for better luck, Slater moved to ABC with his next project, The Forgotten. While it fared slightly better than its predecessor, it ultimately met the same fate – ABC has decided to pull the plug on the series after fifteen episodes.
The Premise of ‘The Forgotten’
The show centered around the “Forgotten Network” – a group of amateur investigators led by Alex Donovan (played by Slater) – who were dedicated to identifying the corpses of ‘John Does’ that were otherwise unidentifiable. The series also starred Michelle Borth and Elisha Cuthbert, with its final episode, “Donovan Doe,” airing on a Tuesday.
Two more episodes, titled “Living Doe” and “Designer Jane” (keeping with the show’s motif of including “John,” “Jane,” or “Doe” in episode titles), were filmed but will not be aired to conclude the series. Instead, they’ll most likely be burned off over the summer, along with episodes from other canceled shows.
Signs of Cancellation Were Already in the Air
The cancellation of The Forgotten seemed inevitable for some time, particularly when the March 16 episode was announced to be postponed in favor of a FlashForward recap. “FlashForward: What Did You See?” took the place of The Forgotten on March 16, covering the first ten episodes of FlashForward‘s first season. The show returned with new episodes two days later, on March 18.
Another Victim of the TV Cancellation Spree
The Forgotten is just the latest casualty in a long line of television cancellations this season. Other ABC series, such as Hank, The Deep End, Eastwick, and Ugly Betty, have already met their demise, with more shows like Scrubs and Better Off Ted likely to follow suit.
Was ‘The Forgotten’ Deserving of Its Fate?
