Who doesn’t love a good conspiracy theory? Perhaps this is the biggest reason that Stranger Things has become the phenomenon it is today. It’s filled with conspiracy theories that are floating around the world, and it’s so much fun to see how the Duffer brothers bring it around to make a story of it. Millie Bobbie Brown is the young actress who plays the role of Eleven in the show, and it’s this character people are asking about. How did Eleven lose her powers in season three? It is a complicated story, and it’s a story we’re going to have to spoil for you. If you haven’t watched it, don’t read it. How did Eleven lose her powers? We need to go back a bit to tell you her story.
How Did Eleven Lose Her Powers?
We cannot tell you just yet. First, we must go back and look at things from the beginning. Let’s talk about Terry Ives. She’s the mother of young Eleven. Ives is taken by the CIA, and it’s under their direction she is being subjected to the MKUltra experiments (the same experiments many are accusing the government of subjecting on Kanye West, too). Eleven, her little girl, is born with powers. Her powers are substantial but also unique. She is several things, including a psychic with telekinetic abilities and empathetic sensory powers. She’s a majorly powerful little girl.
Eleven was known to have powers thanks to her mother’s experimental moments with the CIA; her daughter was never hers. She was taken at birth. She was raised in a lab. She’s a test subject more than anything else to the government. The goal is to use her and her powers to do things that allow the USA to remain the most powerful. However, she accidentally opens up some crazy dimensional port that allows the world to open up to a different dimension – the Upside Down – and now the world is filled with many different people with different abilities.
The Attack and the Closure of the Other Dimension
There were several theories following the end of season three, and many of them were wrong. It was thought that Eleven might lose her powers after the gate to the other dimension was sealed, but we remember that she lost them before. It turns out it was the Mind Flayer’s attack. Things did not go well for her, and she did not make it through unscathed. She was crushed to learn her powers were taken from her, but she’s also well aware of the fact that her powers have caused many major issues in her life thus far. She was born and bred for her powers. She’s tried to escape, but things keep happening to her. How did Eleven lose her powers? Because of the Mind Flayer. However, this is not as important to ask as if she really can live without her powers.
It’s Not How it’s Why
How did Eleven lose her powers? We know the answer, but why did she lose them? She lost them because she was drained. She’s tired, and she simply forgot. The attack on her brain in season three was similar to what most people might consider a stroke. She has her powers, but she’s weakened. When she’s in a weakened state, she cannot access her powers. It is almost as if she forgets how to use them, and this is upsetting. You see, she is no good to anyone without them, and it’s not in her own best interest to have no powers. She needs them. She has to have them. She’s one of the most powerful beings on earth, and without her, power is a waste.
When she does get them back, however, she’s more powerful than ever. The doctor is working diligently to find a way to keep her from draining herself. Her powers simply do not work if she hasn’t the energy to use them. She’s a young girl, and her own internal battery is often drained when she exerts herself too much. As a result, she’s sometimes unable to focus on the things that need the most attention. When this happens, she finds herself in a dark place.
How this will play a part in season five – the final season – is nothing we know about. Eleven is powerful, but will she survive? We’ve already seen her at her worst and her weakest. If we had to guess, season five would be one for the books. She’ll likely lose them forever, or she will once and for all take everyone down.
