Does anyone else think that Jon Stewart might have been getting restless in his retirement and just wanted to get back behind the desk? It would certainly go a long way towards explaining why he’s going to be showing up on Apple TV+ eventually with a new series what will be about current world affairs, and will likely be ready to take on the news in as serious and comedic a manner as possible yet again. There are likely many people that are excited about this, and there might be some that are wondering just how it’s going to stack up against so many other shows that are already out there, a couple that are actually quite similar to what he’ll be doing. Will people come back to Stewart and continue to watch others that have been placed in his stead for so long? Or is it going to be a contest of sorts to see if he can bring back the same attitude to the small screen and possibly show his younger counterparts how it’s done? It might not feel that this is his goal, and it probably isn’t, but there’s still the idea that he’s going to be looking to make this new series something similar to what he used to be so famous for. It would be a natural way to go since Stewart made a living out of being as snarky as possible and was also one of those that was truly good at what he did.
Stewart had a pretty good following before he left, and it’s fair to think that a lot of people will want to know if he can still perform the same as he did before leaving, or if time away from his show will have dulled his edges a bit, or if he’s just as ready to go and prepared to dish out his opinion and make it as funny and as pointed as possible. A lot of people might think that it will be the latter, but it’s important to realize that age manages to change people quite a bit since it might round out those edges that were so important when people were slightly younger. The hope for anyone is that by growing older they gain a good deal of wisdom, if not an increase in intelligence, which is often brought on by further life experience. It does feel as though Jon will be coming back with a few slightly different views than he might have espoused in his earlier years, but it also feels as though he’s going to be largely the same as people remember from years ago.
It hasn’t been that long of a time since Jon turned The Daily Show over to Trevor Noah, and a lot of people would say that he left the show in good hands, while others would likely cringe and wonder why it was Trevor Noah that got the spot. That’s a matter of perspective and personal opinion of course, but now that he’s coming back it’s going to be interesting to see how things will stack up between Jon and other show hosts since like it or not, no matter if they’re friendly with each other or not, a lot of hosts are attempting to keep their own shows heading in the right direction and are actively competing with each other, even if it’s a friendly competition at times and not so much at others. It does feel as though he’ll be able to step back into their midst and apply himself in a way that will allow for a smooth and desired transition that will see him regain the prominence he once held. That’s the hope of a lot of people, including Jon no doubt, but until that happens we’re going to have to wait and see just what the future holds for his show. There’s no working title yet apparently, but that’s kind of a formality since until he’s on the air and ready to go it’s very possible that the title isn’t such a big deal.
Each hour-long show is going to focus on one topic apparently, but one can imagine that the topic will go off in a few different directions since in order to keep going for a solid hour it’s easy to imagine that the topic will be composed of several different talking points that will take the subject around the bend at least once or twice before Jon will give a closing statement near the end of the show. The formula for this kind of thing is well-known to a lot of people and the way that it tends to work is when the formula is given at least a little prominence. However it goes, one can easily imagine that for Jon Stewart it will be like coming home in a way.
