Everyone knows Delilah. She’s the woman whose soft voice helps you relax in the evenings when you’re driving around, sitting at home, or just listening to the radio. Delilah Rene is a radio personality who has more than 8 million dedicated listeners because of her syndicated radio show. She’s always using her voice to lull everyone who listens. She takes requests, shares stories, and makes you feel as if you’re at home being read a bedtime story. Despite the fact that she’s been on the air for many years, there are still so many things people just don’t know about her. We thought we might rectify that situation for you right now.
1. She Dropped the Rene
It did not take Delilah long to realize that she didn’t need to use her second name on her show. She began airing as Delilah Rene, but she dropped the Renee so long ago that most of her followers and fans don’t even know she ever went by anything other than just her first name. She’s like the Madonna of the radio talk show host world. You just know who she is even if you don’t listen.
2. Her Radio Career Began with a Speech
When she was but a child, she was a girl who enjoyed writing. She was a speech contest in middle school — it was 1974 when this happened. The contest was judged by the people who owned a local radio station. They did not know it at the time, but she would quickly get a job there as soon as she was old enough. She began by reading school reports. Then she began working in the advertising portion of the show. Before much longer, she was Delilah.
3. She Wasn’t Always a DJ
Delilah didn’t always work at just one station, either. She spent the better part of the early 80s moving around from station to station doing various jobs until she was able to work on the platform she has now. She was good, but she had to do her job paying her radio dues, which she was so good at she eventually went on to create what she’s accomplished.
4. She Works from Home
You hear her every single evening for a solid five hours from 7 pm to midnight, but she isn’t missing dinner with her family or the bedtime portion of the evening. She’s home, and she has the shortest commute imaginable. Her studio is located in her home, which means she doesn’t even have to get dressed to go to work. How nice must that feel?
5. She’s Got 14 children
She didn’t give birth to all of them on her own, though. She adopted 10 of her many children. Only four are hers biologically. She is a woman who loves kids, and she feels that there are so many children who are in need of a good home but don’t have one. She doesn’t just adopt babies or toddlers, either. She is known for adopting older children who need a place to call their own, a family to love them, and a support system to help them grow.
6. She’s Lost Two Children
Sadly, she’s lost two of her 14 children. One of her adopted children, Sammy, was only 16 when he died. He spent his entire life with sickle cell anemia, and he went untreated until he was approximately 15 and Delilah adopted him. He’d only lived with her in the United States for about nine months when he passed on. Her biological son, Zachariah, killed himself at the age of 18. He suffered from depression.
7. She’s Been Married Four Times
She likes to joke about her many weddings and marriages on her show, but we do imagine that she is not happy about being married four times. She probably wishes she’d managed to find the right one on the first try in some capacity, but we can admit that she probably doesn’t mind that much since it all helped to shape her into the mom, woman, and wife she is now.
8. Her Most Recent Wedding Was A Surprise
When she married her fourth and current husband back in 2012, her friends and family thought they were all coming over to her home in Washington for her annual Harvest party. Instead, they were shocked that she decided to turn the evening into something a little more. She married Paul Warner that evening. He was a man who had been a good friend for a long time, and it made sense for them to wed.
9. She’s In the National Radio Hall of Fame
It’s a beautiful thing when you are so good at something that the world recognizes it, and they did. She was inducted into this prestigious category in 2016 after being nominated and declined the year before. It’s a beautiful thing to know that you will always be remembered for doing the thing that you loved the most, the thing that you are the best at, and the thing that brings you — and the millions of fans you’ve earned over the years — so happy. And, she does have millions of fans. Nearly 8 million people tune in to listen to her speak, and that’s a big deal when you’ve been around this long.
10. She’s Also An Author
In addition to being good with words on the air, she’s also quite good with the written word. She’s the author of four books. Each of them sold well, and she’s been able to make a secondary career out of publishing her books with same company. We can say with ease that Delilah Rene is a woman who has done quite well. She’s worked hard from the time she was a child until now, and she’s earned every bit of the love, respect, and the fame she’s gotten to at this point in her life. We don’t know how much longer she will do what she is doing, but we assume her fans hope that it’s a long time coming.
