Three Young and the Restless Deaths that Still Make us Cry

Young and the Restless fans know a thing or two about death. So many people in Genoa City die on a regular basis, and so many of them return. This year, 2019, has been a big year for people to return to the living from the land of the dead, and we are just so happy to report that there will probably be more people coming back from the dead. On that note, we also have to say that there have been very few deaths on the show that bring us more sadness than a few. They aren’t just ‘oh, they’ll be back,’ or ‘oh, they weren’t that important,’ kind of deaths. They were so sad that they made us feel as if things would never be all right again. Ironically, all three of the most heartbreaking, saddest, worst deaths happened this year.

Neil Winters

What was so sad about his death was not that we didn’t see it. It did not happen on the screen. It did not happen in a dramatic way that brings shock and confusion and sadness to the screen. It happened because the man who played this character died in real life. Kristoff St. John was shockingly found dead earlier in 2019 without any warning that this might happen, and it broke everyone’s heart. He was a man who his coworkers, fans, and friends and family loved dearly, and the loss of his actor was shocking to all of us. When he died on the show as they wrote his character out, we were all crushed. It was so heartbreaking and caused so many tears because we all knew it was real. He was really gone. He was not a man who was alive and well and maybe potentially able to come back. He was gone, and we knew that it was real. We all cried.

The Baby

There is nothing sadder than when a baby doesn’t make it. This year was especially sad when Devon and Hilary were expecting a baby that they wanted so much, and that it was something that they had to celebrate. She was in a car accident, and their baby did not make it. Seeing her in the hospital bed with him learning that their baby did not make it, and seeing their tears and their reactions was too much for us. We hated every moment of watching this baby die and watching this baby not make it. They were so excited to become parents together, and their dream was taken from them in one simple car accident.

Hilary

Second only to the death of her baby was the hard reality of watching her die, too. Her life was changed in one instant as she and Lily were in a car accident and it killed her baby. She was heartbroken. Her life had been a mess up to that point, but she had finally decided to do the right things, to grow up, and to mature a bit into herself. She was ready to stop taking out her anger on other people by making mistakes and changing the game, and she was ready to grow up and stop being someone who looked for revenge and to make other people miserable. She decided to grow up. She decided to start a family. She found love with the man she’d loved for so long. She was happy.

To see her lying there as the doctors told her that her unborn child did not make it was sad enough. To see her lying there as they told her she would not live, either, was too much. She and Devon decided right then and there that they would not wait to get married, and they did it. They exchanged their vows on her deathbed, and then she passed. It was one of the most heartbreaking and horrible situations we’ve ever had to watch. It was too much for us to handle, and we did not love it for an instant. We were crushed, heartbroken, and we were not happy with the way things turned out, but we did cry for days. It was hard to watch.
