Catherine The Great

‘Catherine the Great’ is a four-part British-American miniseries that was created for HBO Miniseries and Sky Atlantic. It was written by Nigel Williams and directed by Philip Martin. This miniseries premiered in the UK on Sky Atlantic on October 3, 2019, and then on HBO in the United States on October 21, 2019. Helen Mirren

Legendary British actress Dame Helen Mirren stars in the lead role of Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia. Mirren has had a prolific career that began in 1966. One of her best-known television roles was playing Jane Tennison in Prime Suspect from 1991 to 2006. For her role in this crime drama series, she won three BAFTA Awards for Best Actress and two Emmy Awards. She then won an Emmy Award and Golden Globe for her performance in the miniseries ‘Elizabeth I’. Mirren was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2013, and she was the recipient of the BAFTA Academy Fellowship the following year. Jason Clarke

The character Grigory Potemkin is a military commander and Catherine’s lover, and this character is played by actor Jason Clarke. This Australian actor has worked in both film and television. He is probably best known for playing Tommy Caffee on the television series ‘Brotherhood’. Some of his best-known films include ‘Mudbound’, ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’, ‘Chappaquiddick’, ‘Everest’, ‘White House Down’, ‘First Man’ and ‘Terminator Genesis’. He is married to French actress Cecile Breccia and they have two children.

Rory Kinnear

Rory Kinnear plays the role of Catherine’s foreign minister Nikita Ivanovich Panin. Kinnear has predominantly worked in theater with both the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theater. He was born in Hammersmith, London, on February 17, 1978, and began his career in acting in 2000. In films, he is known for playing Bill Tanner in several James Bond films, including ‘Quantum of Solace’, ‘Skyfall’, and ‘Spectre’. He is married to Pandora Colin and they have two children. Kinnear’s parents, Roy Kinnear and Carmel Cryan, are both actors.

Gina McKee

Catherine’s friend and confidante Countess Praskovya Bruce is played by Gina McKee, who is an English actress who began her career in 1979. In 1997, she won a BAFTA TV Award for her role in ‘Our Friends in the North’ and was also nominated for awards for her roles in ‘The Lost Prince’ and ‘The Street’. Other television series for which she is known include ‘The Forsyte Saga’ and ‘The Borgias’. The films in which she has appeared include ‘Phantom Thread’, ‘In the Loop’, and ‘Notting Hill’.

Kevin R. McNally

In ‘Catherine the Great’, Kevin R, McNally plays the role of Catherine’s Minister of War and Russian Statesman Alexei Orlov. Kevin R. McNally is a British actor who has worked in theater, radio, television, and film. This actor is best known for playing the role of Joshamee Gibbs in the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ series of films. However, he has also had multiple other roles in film and television. He is married to actress Phyllis Logan and he has one child.

Richard Roxburgh

The character Grigory Orlov is a former lover of Catherine’s that helped her gain power. This character is played by Australian actor Richard Roxburgh. He had huge success as a theater actor, before landing roles in films including ‘Moulin Rouge!’, ‘Van Helsing’, and ‘Mission: Impossible 2′. Outside of his acting career, Roxburgh is a children’s book author. He wrote and illustrated ‘Artie and the Grime Wave’, which is a children’s adventure book. He is married to Silvia Colloca, who is an actress, a blogger, a cookbook author, and a television cookery show personality. Together, the couple has three children.

Joseph Quinn

Joseph Quinn plays the role of Catherine’s son Tsarevich Paul. Quinn began his career in 2011, and his first role was appearing in one episode of a children’s series called ‘Postcode’. His first major television role was playing Arthur Havisham in ‘Dickensian’ in 2016. He has also had roles in ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Howards End’, and Les Miserables’.

Clive Russell

Clive Russell plays the Fool in ‘Catherine the Great’. Russell is an established Scottish actor who began his career in 1960. The roles for which he is best known are Chief Inspector Frederick Abberline in ‘Ripper Street’, Brynden Tully in ‘Game of Thrones’, and Angus O’Connor in ‘Happiness’. In 2010, Russell made his debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as a one-man show. He has also had many small roles in films.

Paul Kaye

Yemelyan Pugachev is a Yaik Cossack who instigates a revolt against Catherine, and this character is portrayed by Paul Kaye. This is an English actor who has also worked as a comedian. He is possibly best known for his portrayal of shock interviewer Dennis Pennis on ‘The Sunday Show’. However, he is also known for playing Thoros of Myr in ‘Game of Thrones’, Vincent the Fox in ‘Mongrels’, and Mike Strutter in ‘Strutter’.

Paul Ritter

Paul Ritter portrays the character, Alexander Suvorov. Ritter is an English actor who has worked in theater, television, and film. In films, he is known for his roles in ‘Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince’, ‘Quantum of Solace’, ‘Son of Rambow’. And ‘The Eagle. The television series for which he is known include ‘Vera’, ‘The Last Kingdom’, ‘Chernobyl’, ‘The Hollow Crown’, and ‘Friday Night Dinner’.
