10 Reasons We’ll Be Watching Dreamworks Animated Film Abominable

If you can believe this Abominable has been at Dreamworks and kept as an idea since 2010. This should give you a bit of an idea just how long it can take an idea to really come to fruition and be given the outing that it deserves. But now that it’s on the way the movie looks like it might be a good choice for those that want to make their way out with the family one night and experience an amusing and very touching story about a young girl who discovers a yeti on her roof and along with two friends seeks to take the young creature home. Of course along the way they’ll be chased by a band of hired thugs in the employ of a rich and deranged man that wants a yeti for his very own for reasons that we might not be privy to yet. The story seems to be one of reunification and adventure along the way, which should appease a lot of people.

Here are a few reasons why we’re excited for this movie to come to theaters.

10. After the last How to Train Your Dragon it seems to be a great bit of inspiration.

A lot of people might not have been expecting How to Train Your Dragon to be as good as it was for three films, but now that it’s over it does seem that another saga needs to step up to take its place. Even if it’s just one film this movie seems like it could be something that might give us the same kind of feeling that HTYD did in its time.

9. The Abominable Snowman legend seems to be kind of big at this point.

If you’ll remember the movie Smallfoot came out not that long ago and there have been movies with these creatures in them for the past several decades now and again. But since they’ve become animated they’ve gained a lot more attention by fans. Petrana Radulovic from Polygon even seems to think this could the one movie that might top them all in terms of featuring a yet.

8. Magic in the movies is a big draw for kids.

When it comes to making a movie for kids magic isn’t always a necessary component but it helps since the idea of going to the movies is something special anyway considering that when you’re a kid there’s still something about the theater that’s so far out of your comfort zone that the magic on the screen seems to be, as Hoai-Tran Bui from Slash Film would agree, one of the only things that really makes it all worth it.

7. The reunification aspect is something that should touch a lot of people.

Given how much has been going on in the last few years with families being torn apart and separated it would seem that the subject would be a sore one for a lot of people. But in this movie at least there’s the hope that something is going to happen to rectify the situation.

6. It doesn’t feel as PC as some films have been forced to get.

This could be more of a personal feeling, but the PC culture that has dominated movies for so long seems to be fading just a bit and it can be heard in the trailer if you listen closely to a few lines. All in all it’s kind of nice to see.

5. The movie does seem to emphasize the need for a father figure.

It’s rough growing up without either parent but this movie seems to indicate that the father has either passed on or been gone in some respect for a long time. It seems a lot more likely that he passed away since the tone in the main character’s voice would indicate that she misses him and harbors no ill will towards him.

4. So far it shows a very female perspective but in a balanced manner.

At this point what we get from the trailer is that this is the young girl’s story along with the yeti’s, but there are more female characters that seem prominent in the story than men. There’s no problem with this really since despite having a very female perspective it doesn’t seem to dwell on it as the story unfolds.

3. It does have a strong female protagonist.

Obviously Yi is going to be very strong-willed and determined to do what she needs to in order to get the yeti home. This means that she will no doubt stand as another figure that people will figure is meant to empower young girls.

2. It seems to be bringing back a musical classic.

You Can Go Your Own Way has been heard in quite a few movies to date, but in this instance it seems to be integrated into a different sound that is nothing short but magical and impressive since it’s made to fit so well into the movie.

1. There’s a very family-oriented theme.

Family has always been a big theme in movies but it’s been pushed over and over throughout the last several years in a very big and overall impressive way.

This definitely seems like a movie that’s worth going to see.
