Dianna Pearle of People compiled a list of celebrities who retired from the limelight, leaving many of us wishing for their return, even if just for a cameo. Some of these retirements were surprising, as Genevieve Hassan of BBC News would agree, while others seemed to have reached a point in their careers where they found more importance in pursuing other options. As Ranker points out, some people simply decided to stop being famous and were more than happy to stay home and do something else with their time. Fortunately, for most of these individuals, their fame had already set them up for a comfortable life, allowing them to coast through the rest of their days doing what they wanted. However, it would be a delight to see a few of them make a return, even if just for a brief, nostalgic moment.
Here are five of the most popular retirees we’d love to see come back.
5. Gene Hackman
Gene Hackman created some truly memorable characters during his time on screen, but he decided to retire and become an author not too long ago. While writing can be a cathartic and relaxing pursuit, it would be fantastic to see him return for a couple of his movies, perhaps as a mentor-type character that might close out a trilogy or a series. If nothing else, it would be great to see him back on the screen, delivering his iconic lines and captivating performances.
4. Jack Gleeson
Jack Gleeson is best known for his role as the detestable Prince and then King Joffrey in the hit series Game of Thrones. His character’s death was one of the most satisfying moments in the show’s history, which is a testament to his incredible acting skills. Despite his young age, Gleeson decided to retire from acting, but it would be amazing to see him in another film or TV show, showcasing his undeniable talent.
3. Daniel Day-Lewis
Daniel Day-Lewis is a polarizing figure, but there’s no denying that he’s one of the best actors out there. He’s known for going deep into his roles, staying in character for as long as possible, and delivering authentic performances. Although it doesn’t seem likely, getting him back on the big screen would be a real treat for fans.
2. Sean Connery
While it may be impossible to get the original James Bond back in action, a clever cameo in an upcoming Bond movie could be a fantastic nod to the iconic actor. Sean Connery defined the character and left a lasting legacy, so reminding audiences of his contributions on the big screen would be a wonderful tribute. Perhaps he could make a brief appearance to offer advice or a witty one-liner to the current Bond.
1. Rick Moranis
Rick Moranis is adored by many, and it’s difficult to pinpoint just one role we’d love to see him reprise. With Ghostbusters 3 on the horizon, it would have been incredible if he had been contacted for a role. However, Moranis chose to lead a quieter life with his family, and it’s hard not to respect his decision to prioritize them. His dedication to his loved ones only adds to the admiration fans have for him.
While all of these actors have earned their retirement, one more appearance on the big screen would be a delightful treat for their fans.
