Facts Every Days of Our Lives Superfan Should Know

Days of Our Lives fans who have been around for more than 50 years know so much about this little town, but the newcomers might not know so much about it. It might be easy to assume that you can figure out where it is, what it means, and how it all went down around here, but do you even get to consider yourself a real fan if you don’t know certain things? There are a few facts about the show that everyone should know if they plan on considering them a superfan. If you don’t know them but do consider yourself a superfan, then now is your chance to learn them and fake it until you make it, right?

Where is Salem

Many people mistakenly assume that Salem is a haunted little town in Massachusetts where witches were hung and people were living some strange lives centuries ago, and that’s totally understandable. However, it’s also totally incorrect. This is not that kind of small town in the northeast. This little town was confirmed as being located in Illinois just a few years ago after fans wanted to know the truth. There was so much that pointed to the fact that it was in the state, such as people saying more than once things that referenced the proximity to Chicago. The fans in the area are said to wear Illinois-based sports’ team apparel — and it is located in Illinois.

Who Gives the Opening Lyrics

If you are a true fan, you know that the opening credits of the show are very special. The show opens with an hourglass that’s become iconic and well-known as being related to this show, and it has a statement go along with it. “Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives,” and that statement is uttered by someone who was with the show for almost thirty years until the day he died. That man is MacDonald Carey, and he’s the actor who used his voice to coin this popular term. He was there from 1965 when he began his own role on the show, and he was there until he passed away in 1994. That’s a long time to spend working in one place, but it worked well for him to be there, so he probably wasn’t too upset by it.

What Caused the DiMera/Brady Feud

If you’ve been a fan of the show for any length of time, you know that the DiMera family and the Brady family kind of hate one another. Actually, they really, really hate one another. Most of us have no idea why other than the fact that they are all kind of crazy and they have some issues to resolve, but it turns out there is an actual reason behind this one. You see, when Stefano DiMera — rest in peace — showed up in Salem back in the late 1960s, he made it clear that the Brady family was not a family he cared for. He spent years of his life working to make sure they were miserable and unhappy. He took people, killed people, faked deaths, kidnapped babies, and he worked very hard to ensure that not one couple would be happy in that family. And it took us almost forty years to realize why. His own father cheated on his mother with Colleen Brady and that resulted in a child born that was not his mothers. And Stefano wanted to do all he could to punish this family for what he felt was their role in making his mother’s life a sad one.

The Christmas Story

The holidays are certainly a big deal around here, and we get why. But did you know it goes beyond that? The traditional Christmas story that’s read to the kids on the show in the hospital that are living there every year are actually kids who belong to the real life actors on the show. They are children whose parents are the people who work here, and that makes the situation even more special in terms of being able to bring your kids to work and make a meaningful time of this time of year. We love it so much, and we wanted to share that.
