Survivor 21.11 “We Did It Guys” Recap

Survivor 21.11 “We Did It Guys” RecapIf you missed the elimination of my pre-season favorite, Brenda, make sure to catch up with my recap here.

This week’s Survivor is the traditional pre-Thanksgiving recap episode that takes a look back at the season so far by using unaired clips from the first ten episodes. As there is no new narrative to detail, and it’s Thanksgiving weekend here in the States, let’s just take a look at some of the highlights of the special.

–When Espada first got to their beach, Jimmy J, Jimmy T, Marty and Tyrone had a bit of a battle of testosterone to see who was going to be the leader in camp. They were eventually able to put their egos aside (a bit) to complete the shelter, but perhaps they should have worked together better because during that first night, the shelter collapsed under the weight of the tribe.

–La Flor’s first day was spent swimming and having fun, and featured blircles prominently. NaOnka wasn’t very happy with her tribe’s attitude early on because none of them were interested in playing the game. She figured the women on Espada were weaving palm fronds together for their shelter, and she was right. NaOnka had no desire to be with “young idiots.”

–Fabio went into the game with the plan to stay under the radar and coast. Such a plan is difficult to pull off when you keep injuring yourself. Fabio constantly walked into things, and once accidentally put hot pepper juice in his eyes.

–Holly, at one point, thought that the tribes would be mixed into City Folks vs. Country Folks. Don’t give the producers any ideas, Holly!

–Evidently, Purple Kelly did speak more than once this season. Unfortunately, such speech consisted of nothing more than whining about the rain and a desire to quit. *sigh*

–After the tribe shuffle, Jill was very wary of where Jane’s allegiance lied. She could clearly see “Survivor MacGyver” bonding with the kids on the original La Flor tribe. What Jill didn’t know was that Jane had prepared greatly before starting the game. She restricted her food a couple months before the game (so as to not feel hunger pains) in anticipation of getting on the show, and bought a sauna so she could steel herself to the heat. Further, Jane knew how to outwit her competitors rather easily, as evidenced by her being able to convince everyone to leave camp so she could steal fire to go cook her fish by herself.

–Dan dies his hair really black. He dies it. Duh. (What? You want me to say something nice? OK…fine!) Dan is good at making friends.

–Sash took the strategy of creating alliances with as many people as possible. The sign of Sash being a good player, however, is his distinction between telling someone he’d love to be next to them in the Finals, but not promising that spot to them. It’s a subtle and perhaps ridiculous distinction, but it’s the type of distinction that is likely to register positively with The Jury.

–Holly approached NaOnka about the latter’s theft of the flour and convinced her to tell the truth. NaOnka told Holly she loved her because Holly reminded NaOnka of her mother. This must have been true because NaOnka did in fact confess to everyone about the flour and cooking tools.

–Holly knows how to rock a one-armed blouse!

–Chase entertained the tribe with some of his original songs, written after his father passed away. Brenda appreciated the emotional nature of the songs, but she thought Chase had no chance at winning the game because in order to win, the game needs to be played without emotion. I wonder if her Ice Queen attitude comforted her when her torch was snuffed.

So, that was the recap of the first twenty-seven days of Survivor: Nicaragua. Did you learn anything new? Is anybody’s strategy clearer? Are you just mad that this wasn’t a “new” episode of the show (God knows I am!)? Please leave your comments, questions and theories below. I’ll be back next week a recap of an all new episode. Until then, I’m off to touch the seeds of the pepper.

Happy Thanksgiving!!
