Days of Our Lives Cast Members Who Were Previously Fired

Days of Our Lives fans know that sometimes your favorite characters have to leave the show. To keep things interesting, people have to die. They have to face horrible things and bad times, and they have to go. And that’s just in Salem. It’s also cool to realize that they will come back at some point if they really want to. No one really ever dies in the show, and that’s all right. But There is something that does sometimes bug fans about their favorite shows, and that’s the characters they love who have to go and do so because they are no longer wanted. They are fired, they are rumored to be fired, or they are simply written off when a new writer comes into the show and decides it’s time. These are some of the people who were fired from Salem without much warning, and fans didn’t love it.

Deidre Hall

Did you know that the beautiful Marlena was once fired from this job she’s been doing for so long? Considering the fact that she’s here on the show still celebrating her new marriage to John kind of makes things a little bit more difficult for us to imagine this, but it’s a true story. There is so much that might just happen for them and to them, and we get that. We get that they have much to offer and much to deal with, but what happens when she’s let go and fans go crazy? It was 2009 — so a decade ago — and she was fired. She wasn’t let go because of anything like her performance, but her job was not safe because of other things happening. The show was renewed, but it was given a smaller budget to work with than ever before. They weren’t doing as well, and some big-budget stars needed to go. But, don’t worry. When the show got some of its funding back, they were quick to call her up and ask her to make a quick return to the show. They know a good thing when they have it, and she was gracious enough to make the return even though they did her so wrong in the first place.

Drake Hogestyn

You know him as John Black, and he was given the boot when his ‘wife’ was back in 2009. He’s another star who was making too much money, doing too well, and needed to go so that the new writers of the show could write with less money and less stuff to deal with. He was a victim, and he got over that pretty quickly. It did not take long before this show realized that they need him more than anyone can imagine, and we liked that. What’s really amazing, though, is that this was not the first time the show let him go. They also fired him in 2007, rehired him, and then fired him again in 2009. Except they don’t consider things like this ‘firing’ when it happens. They consider it writing someone off the show, and that leaves the door open for them to come back whenever they feel that they can use them. And they did invite him back all of two years later when they needed he and Marlena.

Matthew Ashford

2009 was not the only year that this show suffered some writing team upheaval and people were let go. They have budget issues. They have writing issues. They have reasons for the writers to get rid of people to take things in a new direction, and fans were horrified in 2012 when the writers decided it was time for Jack to die and go away. He did, too. He came back once or twice over the years as a ghost to the people he loved, but fans were not as open to this as the writers thought. It took them seven years, but they were able to realize their mistake and bring him back. He’s there as Jack again, but he has no idea who he is or what is going on in his life. This means we might have some more to worry about in the near future. And it means we might just have to see him make some changes.
