There are a lot of different women in the music industry that can carry a tune and that are highly regarded when it comes to their awards and their talents. Gwen Stefani is one of those that you either absolutely love or like and don’t always talk about since keeping up with her career is just a little bit difficult at times since even she doesn’t always know what she’s going to do. She has a plan just like everyone else but as she’s admitted there were things in her life she didn’t know were going to happen but doesn’t regret, like having children, going solo, and a few other things that kind of just happened but helped to make her who she is today. As a singer she’s been highly successful and extremely talented with a voice that many willingly pay to hear. As a person you might have your own opinion but it does appear that she’s been doing just fine throughout the last decade and more.
Here are a few things about her you might not have known.
10. She was named after a character in a novel.
Gwen was named after a stewardess in the novel Airport. A lot of parents take to various ideas about how to name their kid and who or what after, but eventually it all comes down to something they can agree on and what will hopefully sound good down the road.
9. Her older brother was in her band before leaving to pursue other interests.
In fact it was her older brother that got her into singing for the band. He eventually left as he went on to pursue a career in animation for The Simpsons. That’s one heck of a jump to be honest but it does seem that he did well following the switch.
8. No Doubt almost split because of her romantic involvement with another band member.
Gwen and Tony Kanal got together for a while and tried to make it work. But having to be in the same band as your significant other seems to be just as bad of an idea as dating a co-worker. It sounds fun and all and you get to see each other all the time, but that can wear thin if there isn’t anything else between a couple.
7. She wore a bindi for a while when she was with her fellow band member.
She did this for Tony, who is of Indian heritage, but eventually stopped wearing it once they were through. You can see the bindi on her forehead in a few videos up until they split. Some people might have thought it looked cool but others might have seen a bit of an issue with it.
6. She’s been just as popular as a solo artist as she was with No Doubt.
In fact it might be that she’s seen more fame being away from the band than she did while being a part of it. She’s been back and forth with No Doubt over the years as the band is what helped to make her famous, but her solo act has been carrying her quite far throughout the years.
5. Gwen auditioned for a role in the movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
Obviously she didn’t get it but this was a sign that she was trying to expand and do something other than just sing and start her own fashion and perfume lines. A lot of singers have gone this route throughout the years and it’s not surprising at all to see people trying to go from one medium to the next.
4. She hooked up with Blake Shelton the same year in which she divorced Gavin Rossdale.
This might seem like it’s a little cold to a lot of people since you would think that you’d want to let a little time pass between relationships. But in the world of show business it seems that relationships happen quickly and end just as quickly sometimes no matter how happy people look together.
3. Gwen replaced Christina Aguilera on The Voice.
It’s a wonder that a lot of people didn’t see the switch since Christina was actually a big name on the judging side of the show and still has enough fans that were probably surprised to see her go. But Gwen stepped in and made it her own place pretty easily.
2. A few of the songs from Tragic Kingdom were based on her breakup with her former boyfriend.
Don’t Speak is a good example of this since she and Tony went through a breakup that kind of damaged the band’s reputation for a short while but at least inspired a few songs that were big hits for No Doubt.
1. She hasn’t used her natural hair color since the 9th grade apparently.
Just in case you were wondering, no, she’s not a natural platinum-blonde.
She’s been a great singer for a lot of years, and hopefully there are many more to come.
