It might be folly to start listing the movies that you’ve seen Emily Blunt in since it would be telling you something that you already know, but there are plenty of facts and tidbits about her life that you probably haven’t realized since despite being all over the internet they’re simply not things that you would hear in a lot of interviews or when the subjects of her movies come up. In fact a lot of these facts have to do with the reason why she’s so successful and why she’s gained the attention of so many. In nearly every film she’s in Emily seems so calm, composed, and poised that it almost seems as though she was born to be movie star, but there are parts of her past that would contradict this since she had a good life but wasn’t always the center of attention that she’s been lately. Of course given that she’s worked hard to get here it’s easy to say that she deserves it.
Here are a few facts you might not have known about Emily.
10. At one point in her life she had a stammer that she couldn’t control.
This started at the age of 8 and even after her mother took her to relaxation classes it was still a problem. When a teacher asked her to act out a part in a different voice however the stammer went away rather quickly. This was a sign that acting could be something that might help her out, as practicing with different accents allowed her to finally get rid of the stammer.
9. She’s incredibly versatile in her roles and in life.
In the movies she’s been seen to play one role or another with stunning skill, and in life she’s also versatile since she is a classy, upscale woman that doesn’t mind getting dirty and getting out and enjoying life.
8. Her wedding to John Krasinski took place on George Clooney’s estate in Italy.
Being good friends with someone like George Clooney does have its perks since she and her husband got to enjoy a beautiful ceremony that was no doubt quite impressive and better yet, hosted by someone that knew them quite well.
7. She dated Michael Buble at one point.
This relationship lasted for three years from 2005 to 2008 and for all intents and purposes they split amicably and went their own ways. A lot of famous relationships tend to blow up in the faces of those involved but some tend to at least end on a softer note.
6. On the set of The Devil Wears Prada she and Anne Hathaway were constantly hungry.
They were constantly being told that they had to lose or maintain weight in order to keep the rail-thin look of supermodels, so it was common that they didn’t eat as much and had to suffer for the movie just a bit. That seems kind of counterproductive to keeping the actors in fit and working condition.
5. She did a lot of improvisation on The Devil Wears Prada.
Emily convinced the director to let her do the lines she wanted and even stated that her character was based on people she’d met in the past but never wanted to get to know. Seeing how the movie was filled with such people you can get a good understanding of why her character was so convincing.
4. Stanley Tucci admits that he and Emily decided to see who could go more over the top in their scenes during The Devil Wears Prada.
Stanley is the kind of guy that goes all out in some of his roles and in some cases seems like the biggest jerk alive on film. But he stated that Emily won this contest between them hands down without fail. Oh, and he’s a pretty nice guy in person too.
3. Her theatrical debut was alongside Judi Dench.
She only had about six months worth of training at this point and was no doubt just a tad nervous about starring next to a true legend since Dench has been around for a while and is the epitome of calm and poise. But she did well and managed to present herself in a professional manner.
2. She was almost cast in The Dark Knight.
There was an idea to put her in when Katie Holmes decided not to come back but the director went with Maggie Gyllenhaal was cast instead. It does almost seem as though Emily wasn’t right for this part though.
1. Emily was considered for the role of Peggy Carter in Captain America.
This would have been quite interesting since her husband John Krasinski was in the running to play Steve Rogers/Captain America. That might have been quite the sight had it actually happened, but of course Hayley Atwell and Chris Evans were selected instead.
She knows how to play both strong and troubled women in her films and thus far she’s been quite entertaining.
