When did you first see Dina Meyer? For quite a while she seemed to pop up in just about everything. She was a fresh face that was needed in Hollywood and for a number of years she was exceedingly popular since she had the bad-girl look but more of a rough and tumble attitude than many of the divas that had come around during that time. Dina has been the kind of woman, on film, that can be exceedingly gentle and sweet, but more often than not is also the kind that can knock a person to the ground and not feel a bit sorry for it. That combination might seem like it comes around more often than you’d think but even so, Dina was the type of woman that exemplified the rough, independent woman that didn’t need help and was bound and determined to do things her way. In some of her earlier films she was a bit over the top with the attitude but she still got the job done and made herself noticeable.
Here’s just a few of the films she’s been in that really managed to get her noticed, and of course showed how tough her characters usually were.
Starship Troopers
Dizzy was the tough tomboy in high school and was all over Rico when it came to what she wanted. But Carmen had him first and up until she figured out that she wanted to be a career pilot there was no room in Rico’s heart for Dizzy. That didn’t stop her from trying however since she even managed to get transferred to the same base where Rico was stationed at in order to be closer to him. It was only after his heart was broken that Rico started noticing Dizzy and then, well, things got pretty heated as you can imagine as they were both young, on the front lines, and well aware that any moment could be their last. Dizzy though was the kind of woman you’d gladly stand on that line with and expect her to have your back because she knew that you’d have hers. That’s the kind of woman that just seems outright tough, even more so than some men to be honest.
Johnny Mnemonic
So this wasn’t one of her best movies but it was one of her first so there’s a lot of leeway to be given since she was just getting into it and likely had a lot of quirks to work out. But still, as a rather off-kilter character that was out to prove herself in any way she possibly could she did manage to serve as a kind of sidekick to Keanu Reeves’ character and did manage to be useful throughout the film. This movie was just out and out weird anyway since it was set in the future and featured couriers that could store data inside their head at the expense of losing a good portion of their memories so that they could be more effective at their job. However when Johnny is sent to download some top secret pharmaceutical information he becomes a prize to anyone that can extract said information from his skull and use it for their own ends. She comes in more out of curiosity and saves Johnny, but her motives aren’t quite as pure as you might think.
Saw 2
There was only one guarantee with this movie, very few people were bound to get out alive. As one of the detectives trying to chase down the elusive Jigsaw she was hot on his trail a couple of times, or so she thought, but eventually even she got caught and was subjected to one of Jigsaw’s fiendish devices. Her death was particularly nasty and if you want to see the clip it’s very easy to find on the net, but as for here I thought it best to show her trying hard to do her job while it seems like Jigsaw is metaphorically laughing at her as she and the other officers attempt to discover just where one of their own has been taken and how to best navigate around the deadly traps that their adversary is so fond of laying.
Dina has been in numerous movies and TV shows since the start of her career and is still acting to this day. Her popularity has waned just a bit since she’s not the center of attention that she used to be. But one thing is for certain, she’s still the tempting and very tough woman that she’s always been since she has the look and the mannerisms that allow her to carry herself as someone that might not be used to being obeyed, but as someone that can throw down with the best of them if she really has to. That’s a big part of what makes her so great.
