You’ve probably seen Shohreh Aghdashloo before and recognize her but the memory might take a moment to form. That’s okay despite the fact that she’s been acting since the 70’s. Trying to keep up with everyone in the business is just about impossible and now and again some names are going to get lost and you’re going to have to go back and check some people out just to remember what they did that strikes a chord in your memory. But Shohreh has been around for long enough that you should be able to keep in mind just where you’ve seen her and how convincing an actress she really is. It kind of depends on what she’s been in and what her role was on how well you remember her, but if you look at the clips below you might get a good idea of just when you saw her last.
Here are a few clips to help you out.
X-Men: The Last Stand
Okay, so it wasn’t the most popular X-Men movie but it did introduce a few new and well-known mutants that we hadn’t seen as of yet. Plus, Shohreh’s part was somewhat sinister even if her character thought that she was doing something beneficial to people. She was one of the doctors that was helping mutants that wanted to shed their powers do so. Unfortunately for her Magneto and his followers found a way around their security measures and proceeded to tear the compound apart even as the X-Men attempted to stop them. Shohreh’s character lost her life in a particularly nasty way, by being impaled dozens of times when a mutant that could project spikes from his body gave her a simple hug.
Star Trek: Beyond
So thanks to Star Trek: Beyond we got to find out that we don’t need guns and missiles against an alien invasion, we just need the Beastie Boys. Anyway, Shohreh was brought onto the cast as one of the higher ups when the film was taken back for reshoots and while you don’t get to see a lot of her she is there and can claim that she was part of the Star Trek franchise at one point. During the final battle however it just has to be said that calling the Beastie Boys “classical” music was about as hilarious as it was when they were used to defend the habitat that the aliens were attacking. You’ve got to admit that despite what critics said, and there wasn’t a lot of good things said unfortunately, this movie did have a bit of whimsy to it that was hard to deny.
The Expanse
Shohreh has a certain regal quality to her that can’t be dismissed since she carries herself very well when she has to and has a rather husky, commanding voice that isn’t the strongest in the world but can still carry authority when it’s needed. In The Expanse she’s a United Nations executive that’s doing everything she can to prevent a war between Earth and Mars, and she is one of the most important characters around since she happens to know something about almost everybody. This is the kind of character that people tend to want to play simply because they carry more gravitas in a production than many other people. The reason why she’s perfect for this role is that she can play the part of the one in charge so well that it seems to be her normal state of mind. Off the set she’s a very different person, but on screen she is the person to be obeyed.
24
She had 12 episodes on this show and from what it looks like she was not the authority at any point but she was still highly effective since as well as she can play authority she can also play the kind and possibly scared individual as well. Shohreh has paid her dues as an actress and has shown many upon many people just what she can do over the course of her career. The fact that she’s not as well known is kind of hard to figure but it’s also important to point out that she’s one of those actors you remember once you see and hear her. So long as you’ve seen her at some point in the past you’re sure to recognize Shohreh and possibly want to know from where.
It’s not entirely possible to keep up on all the actors in Hollywood, be they on TV or in films, and to be quite honest it’s hard enough just keeping track of the ones that you happen to like. But remembering them once you see or hear them is acceptable since it jogs your memory and reminds you whether you really liked them or tried to avoid them.
