10 Things You Didn’t Know About General Hospital’s Laura Wright

General Hospital fans know that there has been no shortage of Carly’s over the years. She’s a character that comes and goes, but we’ve been watching Laura Wright take on this role with class for a while now. She’s been playing the role of Carly Corinthos since 2005, which makes her the face of the role these days. But despite her many years on daytime television, there’s still a lot you might not know about the woman who plays Carly.

1. She’s A Long-Time Soap Star

Laura Wright is no stranger to the soap opera world. In fact, she began her soap career in 1997 when she was on Guiding Light as Cassie Layne Winslow. She did well in the role, and she played that character on that show until 2005 when she got her role as Carly in Port Charles.

2. She’s Born in D.C.

Wright was born in Washington D.C. in 1970. She wasn’t raised in the city, but she was raised just outside of the city in Maryland. It’s not uncommon for people who are born in the nation’s capital to live outside the city limits in another state. She did, but she enjoyed her time there.

3. She Loved Acting

Even before she was a famous soap star, she was acting. She was in many productions in high school, and she was quite good in them. We don’t know if she knew she’d be an actress at this point, but we know she was good enough to get roles in many productions. It helped her hone her talents.

4. She’s an Award-Winning Actress

Laura Wright is good at what she does. In fact, she’s so good that she’s been recognized for it so many times she can’t even keep it straight. She’s won two awards for her roles in soaps. Her first win was in 1998 when she took home a Soap Opera Digest award for the Favorite New Character in GL. Her second win was a Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Carly on GH in 2011.

5. She Won her First Emmy Nomination

When Wright was announced as a 2011 Emmy nominee, it was her first time ever being nominated. She spent 20 years in the soaps prior to this, and it was her first nomination. She was fortunate enough to take home the award, too. She was nominated, and won, on her first nomination for a Daytime Emmy.

6. She’s Divorced

Back in 1995, Laura married a man by the name of John Wright. They seemed to be a happy couple in their marriage, as they were married for 21 years. However, in 2016, they made the announcement that they were going to end their marriage, and they did. Apparently, they were not as happy as they seemed at the end.

7. Her Ex is an Architect

Most people have no idea what ended her marriage, though some speculate the limelight wasn’t something her husband wanted. He is an architect, but he was married to her for more than two decades of fame. That’s a long time to stay in the limelight before realizing it’s just not for you, even if he did lead a slightly quieter life than she.

8. She’s A Mom

Wright and her ex share two kids. Their daughter, Lauren, and their son, John. We kind of love that they sort-of named their kids after themselves. Laura and Lauren, and John and John. That’s kind of fun for us to notice.

9. She’s Friends with Her Ex

We don’t know what really led to the demise of their marriage, but we do know that it wasn’t so bad they cannot remain friends. They were separated for two years prior to announcing it to the world and ending their marriage legally in 2016, and they want to be friends for their kids. She also doesn’t mind talking about their friendship.

10. She Wants to Help

Following her divorce, Wright did not make it a problem for people to ask her about things in her romantic life. She said she wants to be “a resource to other people,” in terms of being honest about things. She’s done a great job of that, too. She’s doing well for herself.
