Greenleaf is without a doubt one of the more interesting television shows to come along in quite some time. It airs on the OWN Network, which just happens to be owned and operated by Oprah Winfrey. The show has been airing on the network since 2016. The series is about the Greenleaf family, a prominent Southern family who runs an extremely large church in the area. The problem is, this family isn’t exactly what they appear to be. While they might come across as people that are dedicated to living a more wholesome lifestyle, they do all kinds of things they shouldn’t be doing behind closed doors.
The show also has several notable cast members, including Oprah Winfrey herself. With the interesting story lines and a cast that is capable of pulling off virtually anything, no matter how challenging, it’s no wonder this show has become so popular with fans. 1. Oprah Winfrey
In reality, she needs no introduction. You would have to have lived under a rock for the last 20 or 30 years to not know who she is. During her career, she’s been involved with multiple projects and she proves time and again that she is more than capable of working as a dramatic actress and getting the job done right the first time. While she is certainly no stranger to being in front of the camera, this is an interesting role for her because it gives fans the opportunity to see her from a different perspective.
2. Lynn Whitfield
She started acting in the theater, then progressed to some minor television roles. Before she knew it, she was starring in movies, typically in a supporting role. When this opportunity came along, she realized that it was a chance to work on a regular series and to exercise her acting chops in a way that she hadn’t really done in the past. While she has a wealth of experience, this marks one of the first times that she’s been a regular cast member on a series of this magnitude. Without a doubt, she has taken that opportunity and ran with it. Furthermore, her charisma and overall magnetism in front of the camera makes her a fan favorite.
3. Keith David
He plays the bishop in the series and he does an outstanding job of it. Over the years, he’s had a myriad of roles but he doesn’t just stick to acting. He’s also a producer and a singer. When he was starting out in his career, he trained at the prestigious Juilliard School and he has since taken everything he learned there and coupled it with his ever- growing experience in order to create a number of memorable characters. His acting is so natural that you stop thinking you’re watching a television show and almost start believe that what you’re seeing is real. You might remember him from movies such as The Thing, They Live, and Armageddon, among many others.
4. Desiree Ross
Ross is only 19 years old, but she has a talent that goes far beyond her years. She’s also been involved in several projects before this one came along, so it isn’t like she’s never acted before. The truth is, she has a talent that completely eclipses her young age and makes her appear far more mature. In the past, she was in a television film called A Country Christmas Story and did a recurring role on the television series Falling Skies. However, this marks the first time that she’s been cast as a series regular and she’s doing a great job with it.
5. Merle Dandridge
She too got most of her acting experience in the theater, starring in Rent and other notable productions. As far as her television credits go, she has appeared in The Night Shift and Sons of Anarchy. As is the case with the rest of the cast, she can definitely hold her own and she’s capable of making any scene work well for the audience, no matter how challenging it might be to perform.
