Mean Tweets takes on the Avengers on Jimmy Kimmel Live and you can’t help but wonder what’s wrong with some folks. We all have our opinions and we’re entitled to them, this is true now as it’s always been, but the savagery that’s unleashed on Twitter is simply disturbing sometimes as people act so tough online that it’s hard to imagine what they might say if they ever got face to face with someone. Some of them might own up to their words and decide to be just as aggressive in their hatred as they are when it comes to typing out a mean and hurtful tweet. Others though, and this could be said for many, would likely attempt to give a reason as to why they would say such a thing while at the same time stating that they didn’t really mean it, they were simply caught up in the heat of the moment.
Then there’s the idea that some of these tweets are simply made up for the show and carry about as much weight as a feather. Twitter has kind of lent people a voice that they might not use otherwise and in some cases that’s not exactly a good thing. The term ‘keyboard cowboy’ has been used over and over throughout the run of social media and it’s pretty accurate to be honest. Those that sit at their keyboards or on their devices and spout off whatever they want to say or whatever comes to mind are very often cowards when it comes to a face to face confrontation. While the Avengers actors might not all be as tough as their onscreen personas it’s still easy enough to believe that anyone who has the stones to disrespect them over Twitter would become an apologetic or extremely shy mess when in person. That or they would suddenly reveal themselves to be a fan just to avoid any awkwardness.
The actors that have basically made up the MCU for the past decade are a lot more than people seem to think. They’re talented, they’re skilled, and they’re the reason that the MCU hasn’t gone belly up in the attempt to keep ahead of DC when it comes to the movies. Being owned by Disney is a big reason as well, but if the Avengers movies hadn’t been what they are and the actors hadn’t done their jobs then things would be much different now and the hate would probably be more dismissive than it is at this point. Twitter has certainly given a voice to the people, but sometimes it’s a voice that’s better off not being hears as much simply because there’s nothing constructive to be said. Thankfully for every hater on Twitter there’s about ten or more fans that will gladly stand up and defend the shows, movies, and anything else that some people feel the need to put down.
Obviously the actors can take it. They exist in an industry that isn’t always as friendly as it appears and is typically offered a lot of criticism. But really, some of these tweets are just flat out savage.
