You might have thought that the sexual harassment allegations were starting to simmer a bit but obviously that’s a misconception as the latest name added to the list of sexual harassment charges is none other than the esteemed news anchor Tom Brokaw. You might remember him from his many faithful years as a broadcaster and you might think he’d be one of the very last people you’d ever see in this type of article, but the issue is going around like a virus as more and more women step forward to announce that they were in some way abused, harassed, or made to feel uncomfortable in some way by men in positions of power. While there’s no denying that there have been cases in which this has happened without a doubt, some stories coming forward force people to harbor a lot of doubt.
For instance, one of Brokaw’s accusers not only states that she wrote her experience down in a journal, but that she told two of her friends the account as well. This might be perfectly acceptable to anyone willing to take the woman at her word but the trouble with it is that her reasoning is the same as many others and is far too easily doubted since she 1) didn’t say anything for fear of her career being ruined, 2) has no evidence to corroborate it since her journal entry could have been penned in at any date, and 3) is unfortunately coming in at such a late hour that her claim is bound to be dismissed unless she can provide something that might prove what he did. Of course the fact that she’s speaking out is good enough if it’s real, but if it’s simply to join the bandwagon and bring down another individual that someone didn’t like or that she might have had an issue with then it would go to show that it’s just an attempt to continue the riotous accusations that have been such an issue since last year.
There’s another accuser that is speaking out against Brokaw as well but she refuses to reveal herself which only makes her case even more untenable. The frustration on both sides of this issue has to be mounting continually as it becomes hard to know who to trust and who to believe is telling the truth versus who is attempting to deceive those who are actually listening. Causes such as MeToo are built upon the idea that people need an issue to be addressed and are desperate to have their voice be heard. The unfortunate part is that those with agendas and vendetta’s against certain individuals in influential and powerful positions then feel the need to latch themselves onto a cause and create as much havoc as possible.
There’s hope that this issue will be at least sitting on the back burner for a little while but it’s a dim hope at best since the matter has not been settled yet and people continue to come out of the woodwork every month it seems. If their case is valid then justice should be served, but if not, then they’re doing more damage than good.
