Journalist Sarah Lacy is not the type of woman that plays around. The serial entrepreneur recently launched her latest company, Chairman Mom, which is a subscription-based community platform for moms that have chose to work rather than stay home. The community is supposed to provide an online space for working moms that’ll be free of bullying and all types of negativity, supporting honest and real discussions about anything and everything in life. If you’ve never heard of Sarah Lacy before, you probably will soon enough, and here are five things you should know about this go-getter to get you started.
Rhodes College grad
Lacy got her undergraduate degree from Rhodes College, a small liberal arts school in Memphis. That school is so small that it takes only roughly 1,800 students each year. Lacy received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature there. It isn’t much of a stretch for her to get into journalism with that degree, and she’s surely broadened her horizons since graduating. However, her first internship after college was at the Memphis Business Journal, and she was guaranteed on the first day that she wouldn’t be getting a job there.
Published author
Besides being a journalist, Lacy is also a published author. She’s written three books to date. She published her first book in 2008 called Once You’re Lucky, Twice You’re Good. Her next book came three years later in 2011 and it’s called Brilliant, Crazy, Cocky: How the Top 1% of Entrepreneurs Profit from Global Chaos. Her latest work was published just last year and it’s probably her most controversial written work to date. It’s called A Uterus is a Feature, Not a Bug: A Working Woman’s Guide to Overthrowing the Patriarchy.
PandoDaily
Lacy was one of the founding members of Pando Networks in 2004, a peer-to-peer media distribution company. In 2012, Lacy founded PandoDaily, a technology news site that tackled a lot of current tech issues and talked about Facebook’s Zuckerberg a lot. PandoDaily has gotten in a few disputes with other organizations in the past, and Lacy was always in the forefront of any PandoDaily troubles.
Versus Uber
In 2014, Lacy and the entire Pando company waged a war against Uber based on the supposed idea that Uber CEO Travis Kalanick is a misogynist. Lacy claimed that Uber was targeting her children and that she had to hire a bodyguard. Lacy’s attacks came to a halt when Uber’s Emil Michael said that they would spend a million dollars to hire a team to fight bad press and investigate Lacy and other journalists.
Versus males
Lacy has had a long history of anti-male antics and making bigoted comments about men. Her latest book and latest online venture are all targeted against males as well, even though they appear to be more feminist in nature. Lacy has been fighting her own battle with sexism for a long time now, and she doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime at all.
