Has The Show “Knightfall” Been Renewed for a Season 2?

There has been no official confirmation yet about whether Knightfall has been renewed for Season 2 and fans are left wondering whether the next season will actually happen. The series is a dramatization of the events that led to the Knights Templar coming together as a group and their eventual demise.

The first season aired in December 2017 and ran for ten episodes. It was made by History and they were hoping that it would be as big a hit as Vikings, which has been a very successful show for the channel. However, this was not the case. Vikings regularly draws in 6 million viewers for every episode. The premiere of Knightfall only drew in 1.77 million viewers and this had dropped to 1.02 by the season finale.

The show has also not been that popular with critics. On Metacritic most of the reviews are average or mixed. Some criticism of the show has come from the fact that people who are watching it to find out the history of the Knights Templar might be disappointed with the way that the show sketches over many historical facts. Some critics also feel that the characters are not engaging enough for people to really care about what happens to them.

There are rumors that production on Season two started in April 2017 but fans are not sure whether this is a rumor that can be believed. It seems unlikely that work on the second season would have started before the producers had seen what the reception would be to season one. However, filming of season one did finish twelve months before the season premiered so it is not impossible that filming could have started already.

Julian Ovenden plays William De Nogaret in the show and he is confident that the show will be renewed. He believes that the show is just starting to hit its stride and that people would definitely engage with the show if it aired for a second season. A lot of the filming for season one took place in Prague at the Barradov Studios. These studios have been used in a number of other films and TV shows including Casino Royale, The Bourne Identity and season two of Legends.

The casting information wasn’t released until June 2017 and if season two follows the same timeline then this information will not be released for another few months yet. Therefore fans may have no reason to panic that there has been no announcement made so far. Networks tend to release details of cancelled shows in the early part of the year so if there was no renewal then we may have heard about it already.
