Carter Oosterhouse is making a return to his origins on Trading Spaces after being shown all over the TV for the past decade in everything from The Great Christmas Light Fight to home improvement shows. He’s even been shown to have his own winery in Traverse City and a mattress line that he started up with his wife, actress Amy Smart. He’s still known for Trading Spaces however as most people have come to remember him from the hit show on TLC. In fact, people might be able to get excited about the fact that Trading Spaces seems set to get a reboot as TLC will be bringing back much of the original cast for the premiere. Oosterhouse will be joined by his designers and carpenter Ty Pennington and the host Paige Davis. There will be a few new designers on the crew, but for the most part everyone should be known to viewers at this point.
Trading Spaces was known as one of the first successful home improvement reality shows on TV and in fact set the bar for the next generation of DIY shows that came after. This reboot is something that Oosterhouse is very excited about and is ready to see come to fruition. Considering how long it’s been and how much fun the people had on the show it’s no wonder that he and a few of the others are highly excited to see it come back.
“It’s just so unbelievable and ridiculous and awesome all at the same time. It’s been so long and we all get to come back to work together. Who has that opportunity? Not many. But we’re very, very fortunate.”
Oosterhouse apparently got the call from TLC about this reboot a year ago, though there were a couple of different ideas that were pitched for the revival. A few of those had familiar faces with some new cast members but as the time went by the idea began to change and eventually the idea for the show began to take on a little more realism. Oostherhouse didn’t even want to do the show until the whole crew came back, and a lot of the other cast members agreed with this sentiment. Thankfully it seems like there won’t be any inflated egos thus far since the cast happen to know one another and how to work with each other, which will make for a smoother-run show that people can enjoy. The concept of the show is supposed to be staying the same as two families swap homes and have 48 hour to transform a room with the help of a designer and carpenter. The only real difference is that this time they’ll have double the budget that they did in the first show.
