It kind of feels like irony runs thick and swamp-like in DC since Trump has now declared that April will be Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. Why would it seem ironic? Oh, locker room banter and all that, you know, the stuff he doesn’t think counts. Granted, what he said and allegedly did took place over a decade ago, but for Trump to say such things should make just about anyone roll their eyes a few times. The footage of him openly admitting to what he did back then and how he felt he was entitled to this and that is a bit sickening, especially now when he’s been heard to say:
“Sexual assault crimes remain tragically common in our society, and offenders too often evade accountability.”
This was stated during a presidential proclamation, and you can just imagine how it made a lot of people feel. It’s enough to respect the office of the president and recognize the need for the current system of government that runs this country. But that level of respect doesn’t always extend to the person, or people, sitting in those seats. They run the country. They decide what’s law, what’s policy, and what is considered to be our societal norms. And at the moment the person sitting at the head of the table is the man that has been heard to be one of the most arrogant offenders of all. Admitting to it back then doesn’t seem to matter however since as the POTUS he’s being allowed to push it off as ‘locker room talk’. That’s great, but he wasn’t in a locker room, he was in a space where the mic was on and his feelings for the opposite sex were made loud and clear.
To know what he’s about and to hear that he’s attempting to shrug it all off makes a person think that as long as someone has the money, the influence, and therefore the power, they can get away with anything. They can even designate a month for sexual assault awareness that was already given such a designation back in 2001. Seriously, is no one researching this stuff before it gets let out of the bag? And does anyone think that Trump being the one to make the proclamation in light of the charges levied against him is kind of odd? This back and forth banter that goes on and on and on at this point between those that support Trump and those that stand against him has grown old and stale already and yet it’s still fairly important since the POTUS is the person at the head of the table that needs to be able to lead the people, not take family vacations to Mar a Lago and deliver tweets citing fake news and witch hunts.
But like it or not this is the president we have for the term unless something happens. Right now he’s what we’ve got, and the lawsuits can keep piling on, but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to do much good.
