Savannah Guthrie Swears on Live “Today,” Apologizes

There’s no need to put Savannah Guthrie on blast after swearing on a live broadcast. One she’s already apologized and has made light of something that does tend to happen, and two, well, it DOES happen from time to time. If anyone’s going to catch blame for this, and it should be chalked up to the fact that mistakes do happen from time to time, it should be the camera crew that put her back on in mid-commercial, since this was when the moment occurred in which she uttered that one little word that’s not so bad but isn’t allowed to be spoken on live TV.

But again, file it in the ‘mistakes happen’ folder since it could have been a bad or mistaken cue that put the camera back on her at that point. In any case she’s not the first person to be caught on TV in a moment such as this and she likely won’t be the last since things do tend to happen at times. So far fans have been understanding and even appreciative that she’s made light of it and that she’s managed to say she’s sorry for the slip. After all her reputation is on the line if she does get caught slipping just a bit while the camera crew kind of gets to slide by the blame and claim that it could have been technical difficulties. Given that she’s an adult and knows how to take responsibility for her actions though Guthrie handled it pretty well and even claimed that it was a good thing that she didn’t wear a mic all day. It seems like a lot of us should be grateful for the same thing when it comes to our own average day.

Swearing is not the worst thing in the world after all, as it is a natural occurrence that comes and goes. A person can learn to control it after all and in polite company usually will without much prompting. Those that use it continuously might find it hard to stop since it can be habit-forming and become a part of their everyday routine that is hard to drop. But while some people have complete and utter disdain for such words others find that they are just that, words. They might not always be nice words and they could be taken the wrong way a lot of times but the fact remains that they are just words and can be easily ignored. In situations like this however it seems like those words just pop out on occasion and can cause a lot more trouble than they’re worth. A person in Guthrie’s position, who is considered to be one of the many voices that people listen to and like to hear on a daily basis, is not expected to swear like a sailor all the time. What she does on her own time is not subject to any censor, but on the air obviously it just can’t happen.

But it happened, she apologized, so let’s move on.
