Legendary Locations is, as you would imagine, a show that’s featured on the Discovery Channel. But rather than being a show that just takes you to exotic locales in an attempt to get people to get out more it’s the type that will tell a story about the places that are seen in an attempt to entertain and to possibly motivate viewers. Some of the sites that are seen on the show aren’t very likely to open up to a mass amount of tourists, but their stories are still interesting enough that it brings value to the program and thus can interest a wide number of people.
In fact some of the stories might be something you’ve never heard before.
5. One of the locations explored was recently used in a Star Wars movie.
The supposedly mysterious islands that represent the world of Ahch-To in Star Wars are actually the Skellig Islands that exist off the southwest coast of Ireland. It’s amazing how they look so alien to this world but they are home grown and quite natural. While the the film took a lot of liberties with certain areas on the islands the formation has been around for a long, long time.
4. Some of the legends fly in the face of those that exist today.
One example is a Christmas celebration that was seen to incorporate strange, monstrous figures rather than the traditional holiday fare. Many religions and practices throughout the world however are bound to be different than those in the west have perceived them, and this is a part of what the show is trying to depict so that people can come to understand just how different certain practices are around the world.
3. A lot of the show is interlaced with a sense of humor that lightens the mood.
Josh’s sense of humor is just enough to make the show entertaining and to gloss over a few of the more historically depressing details that might otherwise act as a downer to this fun and engaging history lesson. He definitely brightens up the mood by trying to play off some of the more serious aspects of those historical monuments and areas that he visits. This helps the viewers to stay interested but still recognize the gravity of certain regions of the world and their history.
2. Some of the stories he uncovers are even more in-depth than those that have been created over time.
Some areas of the world are steeped in legend and myth, but even those can pale in comparison to the truth of what really went on in their true history. In Transylvania there are at least two castles that are depicted on the show that have a much bloodier history than anything that might have come from a horror movie. History is often much more and less than the fiction and fantasy that is taken from it.
1. He’s managed to visit more than 100 countries over the course of the show.
Josh has had a chance to go all over the world seeking out new destinations based on their history and just what they have to offer. He’s literally been from one side of the world to the other in his quest to discover new and exciting locations to show people.
This looks like it could be an interesting show.
