Boy George will be going on tour soon along with the B-52’s for a special summer tour. If you grew up in the 80’s and 90’s, I know, same old line, then you likely listened to the B-52’s and the Culture Club, with Boy George as the frontman. Their music was pervasive throughout both decades really since their songs were so much fun that people couldn’t help but listen to them at full blast sometimes. At some point though Boy George did leave Culture Club, though he would come back twice after going on hiatus. Eventually when he came back to tour with them again in 2015 and 2016 he started to create a new album called Tribes and wanted to get the album out so it could be heard. Up to this point Culture Club has been relying on nostalgia and a lot of goodwill from certain radio stations to continue the circulation of their songs, though in truth that’s been enough since there are still fans out there both young and old that have come to love their songs and want to hear them more often.
In fact a lot of us should be able to remember tracks like Karma Chameleon from Culture Club and Love Shack from the B-52’s since they’ve been played on the radio for years upon years now and are always a good bit of fun when they’re heard. Songs like this take us back to the simpler days of our childhood and allow us to relive those moments when we were a little more carefree and didn’t have so much in our lives to worry about. Obviously those times have come and gone but songs like this and the nostalgia they bring about are still important as it allows us to take a moment out of our lives and de-stress just for a minute or three. If nothing else the tracks are great for those that need a time jump back to the past where they felt at least a little more in control of their lives.
But back to the tour. Boy George and Culture Club will be touring this summer with the B-52’s and Tom Bailey of the Thompson Twins starting June 29th. The tour is slated to start in St. Augustine, Florida and end three months later in Fresno, California. There’s an estimated 40 appearances that the bands will be making, which is impressive and should be a great treat for those across the nation that are more than willing to fork over the money to go and see the bands that helped define their younger years in terms of music. It should be a great time since the bands are among the many that helped to define a generation and bring a new sense of style and flair into the world by showcasing something fun and dynamic that is still enjoyed to this day.
