Amazon’s Lord of the Rings TV Series May Cost over $500 Million

It’s been figured that Amazon’s cost for bringing their own Lord of the Rings TV series to life could cost upwards of $500 million, a staggering number that seems kind of difficult to fathom right now considering what it has to do. Amazon has already paid the $250 million for the rights to even make the show, meaning that the next $250 million would have to go towards making this a reality. They’re already hooked into it at this point and need to go forward, but the daunting numbers are simply hard to believe. The number of viewers they’re going to have to rope in will be intense, and the idea that they’ll be able to do this is still uncertain.

The question of why they’re doing this has to do with the fact that they want to cash in on the popularity of the LOTR fame and since Game of Thrones is going to be wrapping up next year with its final season before going into its spinoffs this could be a nice time to just slip on in and give people what they want. The only problem here is that for one thing there’s no way that the original actors are going to be a part of this, at least not some of them, since they’ve already done their part and will likely be replaced with other actors that haven’t yet had the chance to wow the crowd. A new cast however will be something to get used to and if they’re not up to par then the chances of this being a hit will tend to go down.

Amazon is planning to run the show across two seasons. This means that the entire budget has to cover those two seasons and everything in it. That seems like yet another daunting task that the company has reportedly thought of but perhaps hasn’t reasoned will be challenging all the same. This might not be called a reboot but it still has the feel of being something that shouldn’t even be talked about as the movies were a hit and should have been left alone for a while longer. Amazon taking on this project is interesting since it leaves a person to wonder just how they’re going to produce the same effects on the small screen and what they might possibly change. Is there going to be more prose? Is it going to cling to the books more than the movies did? Or will it continue to add and take away certain aspects that will either anger or confuse fans? So far none of this is known, but it stands to reason that the Amazon series won’t be the same as the movies in many regards. Otherwise it would be a humongous waste of money to give people something they likely have on Blu Ray or DVD at this point.

Right now it seems more like an attempt to cash in on something that people still love, but overall it could be interesting, so long as Amazon can get the subscribers.
