So by now a lot of people have probably watched and re-watched and cried over the show This Is Us. Now comes a parody starring Sterling K. Brown about Trump’s White House titled This Is U.S.. It’s a lot of laughs that would probably make people groan rather than cry since it depicts just about every person in the White House at this point that seems to be either under fire or constantly in the headlines concerning one thing or another. When it comes SNL you can count on them to deliver political parodies to no end since the idea that anyone should be left out of the mix when it comes to comedy is simply intolerable.
Saturday Night Live has had a long history of making fun of any and every political party it can since the idea of parodying such individuals kind of takes the sting out of the rather dumb decisions that politicians tend to make at times. It doesn’t change anything to be certain but it does tend to make people laugh rather than cry since they get to poke fun at those people they think are responsible for the country’s ills. Making this into a parody of This Is Us and politics at the same time is kind of an ingenious effort since it takes two things that people tend to care about the most at this time and combining them to form a hilarious sketch that can generate a lot of laughter and a good feeling that might last for a little while. Plus there seems to be some accuracy in there no matter how much certain individuals would love to deny it since let’s face facts, Huckabee has to be swallowing a lot of pride when it comes to the news and reports she has to spin to make her boss look good when all evidence points to the POTUS and his many mistakes as being so obvious that denying them makes her look even worse, if that’s possible at this point.
And Conway, huh boy. The representation of her seems to be on the money no matter how offensive it might be. One thing you can credit the SNL cast with is that they tend to know how to take on the persona of the people they’re parodying and make it work to such a degree that the people couldn’t possibly make a convincing argument that these performances are completely inaccurate. That’s talent really to make a parody of someone and still nail their mannerisms and attitude with such intricacy that they capture the essence of the person. Of course that’s subjective like always and many people would likely argue against it being realistic in any way, but still it seems that such an argument isn’t too far off base.
In some ways it’s kind of surprising that Trump and his entire cabinet haven’t gone to the network demanding that the parodies stop or the show be in any way penalized for their work. Of course if they did that the fight would likely be more than they would want to deal with.
