New York, New York by Frank Sinatra has to be in well over a hundred different TV shows and movies but you’d be hard-pressed to find them all since those clips usually don’t seem to make it to the internet for some reason. But what’s even harder to believe is that this song wasn’t an instant hit when it first came out. It only made #32 on charts in 1980, but six years later it would come in at #4. Sinatra was one of the greatest singers of his time or any other. While the landscape of the music industry might have changed his sweet, harmonious voice kept right on crooning even after others had taken up the signature song.
It’s been well represented in later years but no one could possibly out-sing Sinatra when it comes to this song.
5. Gremlins 2
It wasn’t much in the way of a sequel but it did provide a few laughs and the means to use this track near the end when the Gremlins are thinking to make their run on New York. Just imagine what they could do in a city this size when they already terrorized a smaller town with ease in the first movie. It’s safe to say that not even the National Guard would be able to roust them out of the darker places without backup.
4. Dancing With The Stars
This program is well known for its showmanship and glamour that comes from the outfits and the choices of song that each pair gets to dance to. This particular track is one that lends itself to a great deal of glamour and grace that is best represented by those that really know how to move to the music and treat it with the proper respect. This is after all Sinatra, and a special song by him should be given all the respect in the world.
3. The Other Woman
Oh what a tangled web it is when a guy attempts to date two other women while still being married and embezzling money all at the same time. You would think that he would trip up somewhere, but quite honestly it’s Carly that gets that ball rolling. Thankfully she, Kate, who’s married to the man in question, and Amber manage to pull together to upset the guy’s plans and then allow karma to catch up with him.
2. Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga has been somewhat surprising in her career to be quite honest. When she first came out her outfits and her music were something unique and definitely outlandish. But despite all that her music has been pretty solid. As of recently she’s been seen doing a lot more that’s considered to be on a level that more and more people can understand, and is truly impressive even if she’s toned it down a bit.
1. Frank Sinatra
Like I said, you can’t get better than old Blue Eyes himself. Sinatra was one of the absolute best singers in the world and earned his respect every step of the way. There likely won’t be another like him for a good long while, if ever.
There’s someone special for every generation though.
