‘SpectreVision’ is a production company that was co-founded in 2010 by directors Josh C. Waller and Daniel Noah along with actor Elijah Wood. Originally, the company was called ‘The Woodshed’. However, the founders made the decision in 2013 to rebrand the company and call it ‘SpecctreVision’. This production company has become associated with producing horror films and they also host an annual film festival called ‘SpectreFest’. In 2017, they have decided to diversify their projects and are collaborating with Ubisoft, a video game developer, to develop their first video game which is a virtual reality project titled ‘Transference’. Here are five more things you probably don’t know about ‘SpectreVision’.
1. A Failed Project Led to the Beginning of SpectreVision
Strangely, it was actually a failed project that led Noah, Waller, and Wood to co-found SpectreVision. In 2010, they were working on a project for which Wood was intended to star, Noah had written, and Waller was set to direct. Unfortunately, the project never got off the ground. However, the three had become firm friends and found they had similar tastes in films and had a shared vision for film production. For these reasons, they decided to create their own production company.
2. They Were Inspired by a Specific Horror Genre
SpectreVision has become linked to horror films, but it was a specific genre of horror film that inspired the trio to focus on making this type of film. When planning the future of the company, they all agreed that there was a specific type of elevated horror they loved. Three films they spoke about that are perfect examples of their favorite genre of horror movie were ‘The Orphanage’, ‘Martyrs’, and ‘Let the Right One In’.
3. They Have Produced Seven Films to Date
Even though the company was only founded in 2010, they have already produced seven films. Their first horror film was ‘Toad Road’ which was released in 2012 and was directed by Jason Banker. In 2013, the sci-fi film ‘LFO’ was released and this was directed by Antonio Tublén. SpectreVision produced three films in 2014; two horror films, ‘Cooties’ and ‘A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night’, and a thriller called ‘Open Windows’. Craig Macneill directed ‘The Boy’ which was the horror film they produce in 2015. Their most recent film is the 2016 horror film ‘The Greasy Strangler’ which was directed by Jim Hosking.
4. They Often Like Films That Have Already Been Rejected
Although they say it isn’t a deliberate ploy, SpectreVision has accepted scripts that have already been rejected by other production companies. They like to support the vision of other people in the film industry, even if this vision is not necessarily shared by other people. The trio works on gut instinct and, if they like a script, they are willing to take a chance.
5. The Have Expanded to Form Company X
The trio have recently expanded the company to form Company X and SpectreVision is now a subsidiary of this company. They decided to do this because they felt protective of SpectreVision and the fact that the focus was on horror movies. However, they were often presented with scripts that they liked but did not fit into the criteria they had decided to focus on with that production company. For that reason, they opted to expand the company so they could handle a more diverse range of movies but continue to maintain the horror focus of SpectreVision.
