It’s highly amusing and even impressive to look at these Louis Vuitton bags that have been upcycled into Star Wars masks. The hilarity tends to go away when you see the prices, but the craftsmanship is truly amazing. I kind of wonder what brought this on and why someone decided to look at a LV bag and wonder just what they could do with it. How in the world Star Wars came up as a viable option I don’t know but the fact remains that the end product is very cool-looking and despite the price would definitely be a big conversation piece in anyone’s home. The only trouble is that a lot of these pieces tend to cost enough to pay someone’s mortgage for about a month or two.
As art pieces they’re very nice and well thought out, but the biggest issue is that as it is with many things you pay for the name, not the materials. A good deal of the material cost would likely account for about a third to half of the retail cost, meaning that the name alone is driving up the price. Some of the materials are in fact hard to procure and do cost a bit more, but the selling price tends to be doubled and even tripled in some cases it seems and as a result you get a product that people simply have to have since it’s trendy and the cost will be the envy of others. Maybe I’m old fashioned or low-brow but paying two to three times what something is actually worth doesn’t make a lot of sense.
I’m all for admitting how awesome these things are, but yeesh, the cost is just ridiculous.
Louis Fetton-$4,000
I’m betting this took about $800 or less to make including material and man hours. The result is great and it’s a masterfully-done piece, but the price is a bit steep. Fett is one of the most beloved characters in the entire series, despite not having much screen time.
LV Stormtrooper-$4,000
For characters that are a dime a dozen this seems like a lot for a stormtrooper helmet. It’s very well done, especially with the zipper being used where it is.
Pharoah of the First Order-$3,500
Just imagine if Kylo Ren puts the mask back on in the next episode. Maybe we’ll see something on a grander scale than before.
LV Walker-$7,000
This had to take some serious time to construct and get right. The body would have been the easiest part but the rest of it had to take a good deal of crafting.
Vuitton Vader-$2,500
It’s a little surprising that Vader isn’t worth more than the walker but not so much so that it would seem improbable. There had to be a lot of work that went into Vader as well.
Tank Vader-$4,000
Tank Vader is a cool creation that had to take a good amount of man hours to complete and yet still can’t be justified any more than the others. Am I alone in thinking that these are cool but not worth the money?
Saint C3PO LV
‘Saint’ C-3PO seems to be stretching it just a bit thin and laying it on way too thick but it’s still a cool image.
If they knocked off a couple of zeroes they’d likely go broke, but the opportunity for people to buy would likely make up for it.
