It boggles the mind why Rick and Morty’s evil Morty theme would get a classical guitar cover. In fact boggles my mind that the show is still on the air. But enough people like it that it’s managed to stick around for this long, and obviously this guitarist likes it well enough that he decided to dress up as evil Morty to pay some sort of respect to the show. Some days it’s a bit hard to write about it since there are so many negative things that I’ve heard about the show as well as positive. People are going to like what they want to like and that’s about all that needs to be said. It’s not right or wrong, it’s a matter of personal choice.
I’ll be honest and say that no, I don’t like the show because I happen to think it’s one of the strangest and most offensive things I’ve ever seen. But that’s my opinion, it’s not supposed to matter as to whether people watch the show or not. If a person happens to like the show then by all means they should watch it. Our own personal hangups aren’t a good enough reason to keep anyone from doing what they want to do or watching what they want to watch.
That being said, the guitar cover is nice. The melody flows easily, the sound isn’t challenging, and in many ways it speaks of a type of end that might not be final but is still the conclusion of something that we might not fully understand. Such a feeling might leave some a bit anxious and even pining for a more concrete finish, but with any story that does this there’s usually a good reason. It could mean that even though this part of the story is done the overall tale is not done by a long shot. Plus, the look given by the evil Morty suggests that he’ll come back eventually and finish what he started.
The show itself is kind of a nuisance to TV, again that’s an opinion, but it has garnered a huge fan base that have stuck by it for each episode and have formed conventions that honor the show. Plus, it did inspire a craze for Szechuan sauce at McDonald’s, a manic moment by many that decided to take it overboard and show just how nutty people can be when they’re given no good reason at all. There were actually people standing on counters and demanding their ‘Mulan’ sauce. So to be honest this scene with evil Morty is downright tame compared to a lot of the other scenes in the show.
Plus, have you ever taken a look at Rick and the things he does? He’s horrible to Morty, plus he’s just a horrible human being. It’d be no wonder that Morty would finally, in one incarnation anyway, become a true threat to Rick and the world at large.
I keep hoping that this show has run its course but I get the feeling it won’t for some time.
