Hart Bochner isn’t someone that you’d recognize right away unless he fell back into a certain role that anyone that’s seen the original Die Hard might recall. Actually that’s impossible because his character died but all of us want more of Ellis. That’s right, he played the slick-talking Ellis, the guy that tried to negotiate his way out of danger by attempting to convince John McClane to give himself up. Did anyone else actually shake their head in a hopeless manner when Ellis was shot? It’s horrible to think about but that character actually seemed to bring his own death upon his head by opening his mouth. So much for being the big talker when it really counted. But Bochner’s become known for a lot more than the coke-sniffing, deal-making businessman that essentially turned on John McClane. In fact he’s done a lot since that movie.
Here are a few things you might not know about him.
5. He’s the co-chairman of the Environmental Media Association.
Bochner is into green living and makes it known by his associations and how he lives his life. He’s actually been recognized for his contributions to green living and has become an environmentally-conscious individual throughout the course of his career. He’s just one of the many that have found this type of lifestyle to be appealing and important.
4. He was discovered in 1970.
He was found by the same director that was responsible for Patton and in fact made his acting debut alongside George C. Scott. Unless you’re a big fan of the 70’s you might not know about a lot of his earlier works, but obviously there’s one that most people will know about from the 80’s, which is a big reason why he’s still a known individual.
3. He studied Archeology.
He was still in school for a while after being discovered and took up a few different interests to keep himself busy and to discover new hobbies and options that might pan out if acting didn’t. Bochner wasn’t really well known around this time yet and that could have worked to his advantage in that he had more freedom to do what he wanted until he went full bore into acting.
2. He was labeled #2 sleazeball in film.
Ellis in Die Hard was just the worst kind of person. He was continually pushing up on Holly, McClane’s wife, and couldn’t seem to resist being a world-class jerk when John was around. He was almost caught red-handed, well he kind of was, sniffing cocaine off of a desk, and he just never knew when to keep his mouth shut. Hans managed to fix that problem.
1. He owns a hydrogen-powered car.
This is just more proof that he’s into green living and that he cares about the environment. Hydrogen-powered cars might not be all the rage at the moment but the idea is certainly being pushed forward so that more and more people are aware of their presence and can see the benefits. Chances are in the next decade or so we might all be thinking that it’s worth the effort.
These days Bochner is definitely more active behind the scenes.
