The Top Uses of Edgar Winter Group’s “Freeride” in Movies or TV

Free Ride, performed by The Edgar Winter’s Group, was first released in 1973 when it became a US Top 20 hit. The song was one of the more fun and fast-moving pieces of the decade and is still a very well-respected song to this date. It’s been played in everything from discos to dance clubs and along with its use in movies and TV it’s been seen to be one of the favorite songs of several generations. It’s still used to this day by many different sources and is thoroughly enjoyed. Some folks might claim that the 70’s didn’t produce a lot of quality bands or songs but Free Ride definitely proves them wrong.

Here are just a few examples of that.

5. Jack Frost

When his character is turned into a snowman without any feasible explanation, at first, Michael Keaton has to contend with a lot of different things you wouldn’t expect after such a transformation. One of them is having his arm taken off by dog, and the other is being plowed into a snowbank by a guy who’s just having way too much fun at his job.

4. Dharma & Greg

Anyone remember this show? It was a lot of fun really considering that it was all about opposites and how they attract. Dharma was the free spirit and the woman that didn’t bend so easily to the rules while Greg was the button-down, laces crossed kind of guy that wanted everything orderly and neat. Together it was like watching oil and water trying to mingle.

3. An American Summer

One of the many coming of age stories, An American Summer is about a young kid that’s trying to find his place in a community that’s brand new and anything but friendly at first. In order to get along and do as the locals do he has to learn their ways and how to just go with the flow while doing his best to find a way to fit in.  Aside from being a fun film it’s got an awesome soundtrack.

2. The Edgar Winter Group

There’s no substitute for hearing the band up close and personal, but there are differences between the performances. Live music usually suffers a bit from the different acoustics that are found within different venues while recorded music has the benefit of being performed in a soundproofed studio. The biggest difference however is usually the atmosphere, which in a live concert is just awesome.

1. Dazed and Confused

This movie is about a lot of different things, but hazing is a big part of it, as is the need for individuality that so many kids crave at this age. The constant rigors of the teenage years are shown just as they are in so many other films with an emphasis on the time period and how each person is affected by the continual hassles they have to deal with. In short it’s a fun and engaging film.

Free Ride evokes a lot of feelings and emotions of freedom, the spirit of fun, and the need to just be yourself.
