The Summoning was created by Australian artist Elyse Castro and released by Sony Pictures Animation and Frederator Studios on their Cartoon Hangover YouTube channel. Upon first watching you get the idea that this is going to be something creepy but cute, and possibly highly disturbing. Well, you were right if you thought that. There’s a certain advantage to posting such videos to YouTube, and it’s that kids might have to really search to find them. The chances are good they might find them before their ‘parents do but there’s also a good chance with this one that they either won’t know what they’re watching or that they won’t emulate any of it since it seems so bizarre and flat out gross.
The female cat is attempting to summon a demonic-looking thing that she says is to wipe the scum out of her life. This seems to perplex the younger cat, who’s already in hiding from a cute, fluffy, obviously psychotic little bunny. The reason for this is that the cat has stolen what he says is the bunny’s chocolate cabbage, which is weird in and of itself. When she realizes she’s out of troll fat the other cat suggests using troll hair, which should have at least some fat on it. Instead of summoning the dreaded specter she wants though she summons two very creepy-looking clowns that grant her one wish. She wishes for troll fat, and in response they give her a crude map where to find it. The map shows an island upon which the troll fat is to be located, and so the cats head out immediately. Upon reaching the area however she finds it difficult to reach the island where the troll fat is supposedly waiting to be found.
Also, the bunny has tracked down the other cat and forces him to flee into the water surrounding the island, knocking the female cat into the water whereupon they wash up on the island. They find the troll fat, but the creature that gives it to them shoots it directly into the female cat’s mouth, causing her to gag as she then attempts to swallow mouthfuls of dirt to cleanse herself. Unfortunately the creature tells her that they are not on an island, but are instead on top of a giant’s head, and that the dirt is really dandruff. Okay, yuck at this point.
Then, as if to make it worse, the creature with the fat tells the male cat that he’s eating excrement out of the cabbage. He explains that the bunny stores his feces in the cabbages because it offers nutrients for the vegetables to grow. Okay, even MORE yuck. And obviously to make it worse the male cat then starts shoveling dandruff into his mouth in order to make it better, but since it’s been established at this point that he has no common sense it’s with a sour look that most people would probably watch as the two cats, after collecting the fat, make their way home where the female starts up her spell again.
This time when she summons the right creature she directs it to a room in the house where it begins…..to clean the bathroom. As she says to the male, she said that she needed someone to clean up the scum in her life. Common sense has never been quite so uncommon.
