Five Things You Didn’t Know about Alexis Ren

It’s hard to keep up with the celebrities that are appearing day by day, mostly because a large number of them are what are dubbed ‘internet celebrities,’ including today’s pick Alexis Ren. There’s nothing to say that they’re not real celebrities since thousands and even millions of people follow their Instagram pictures and Facebook accounts for some peculiar reason or another. But in all honesty there are times when it seems as though anyone with a thought in their head and a camera phone can become an overnight celebrity by fixating on what people want to see or hear and then posting it on YouTube. Don’t get my tone wrong, it’s not jealousy you might detect. It’s the fact that people seem to love debasing themselves or exposing their lives to strangers in a way that a lot of us would never think to do no matter how much we got paid.

But hey, to each their own.  Here are five things you didn’t know about Alexis Ren.

5. She’s a model and internet celebrity.

Models seem to be a dime a dozen in any generation, but at least she’s getting a fair amount of attention for her work and has been steadily rising in her fame. To be honest this is the first time I’ve ever heard of her but then again I’m not always in the know when it comes to new celebrities making their way into the public eye. I think I’d be even crazier if I tried.

4. She was home-schooled.

More and more people seem to be leaning this way when it comes to educating their kids. There are some very big advantages to it after all since you get to monitor your child and make sure that they’re getting the right kind of information. One of the downsides however is that it does take a great deal of time and requires at least one parent to stay home constantly, making their home a one-income household.

3. She suffered through an eating disorder.

A lot of people think that modeling is synonymous with eating disorders. But quite honestly many models go through life without feeling the need to continually adjust their weight or their diet. The thin look might still be in but more and more people are wanting to healthier models that actually have some weight on them and don’t make it seem as though you could play their rib cage like a xylophone.

2. Her mother passed away due to breast cancer.

Her mother was also a health nutritionist. Her passing shook Alexis in a way that only contributed to her eating disorder, which in many ways seems more of a psychological issue than anything. The death of a close family member, especially a parent, is enough to disrupt anyone and can cause serious emotional turmoil that can affect the body and how a person lives.

1. She speaks out against shaming techniques, but has used them herself.

Alexis has spoken out about slut-shaming in the past and how women should be able to dress as they want want and not be judged for it. However, the unfortunate part of this is that she did manage to size-shame her ex-boyfriend not long after they separated, citing that she wanted him to know how she felt about life at that point. That doesn’t make a lot of sense, and yet people still support her after this.

The shaming thing seems like something a little kid would do to be quite honest. But she’s still popular and her numbers show no sign of dwindling.
