What is Peter Berg’s “Mile 22” About?

With Peter Berg at the helm you know the film is going to be entertaining at least. He might not make the huge blockbusters that get all the awards but he does make films that are fun to watch. Mile 22 is set to star a few notable names and is more or less about an American intelligence officer that is tasked with ferrying a mysterious police officer carrying sensitive information from a city site to a private getaway plane. The destination is 22 miles away, which means that in 22 miles a lot is going to happen. The movie will also be starring former UFC fighter Ronda Rousey, Iko Kwais, Mark Wahlberg, John Malkovich, and Lauren Cohan. With that much talent you can only hope that the movie’s going to be a success, especially since the number of egos in the room are going to be impressive and possibly volatile.

Remember the Expendables 3? This could be something like that on a slightly smaller scale. I’m not talking about the movie content, I’m talking more about the idea that this many high-profile people in the same picture could cause issues or it could elevate the film to a level that could make it really great. Rousey and Kwais are both action stars at this point that can bring some serious moves while Wahlberg has the presence that can get the movie started. Malkovich should be a very decisive villain as he’s so good at the role, and Cohan, well, there’s no telling just yet what her role could possibly be.

Fans of The Walking Dead could perhaps surmise that she’ll take a role as a leader or authority figure in the film since she’s become so good at it on the AMC hit show, but there’s no way of telling yet. What we do know from watching Peter Berg films is that he likes action, and he likes to move a story along at a good clip with just the right amount of drama laced in so as to keep the story line intact but not so sappy that it overrides the entire movie.

I can see Rousey and Kwais having either minor roles or being connected to either the villain or the hero of hte movie in some way, support in some regard that’s there when needed or muscle that’s behind the main antagonist and represents a real challenge to get past. You might not think that 22 miles is a super long distance but when you’re attempting to get that far and you have a roadblock or an issue every couple of miles it can be a journey unlike any other. A film titled 16 Blocks was created many years back starring Bruce Willis and Mos Def as a cop and an ex-con respectively. The cop had to bring the ex-con to the courthouse nearly sixteen blocks away from the prison to testify for a case that would put a lot of dirty cops away. Unfortunately Willis was one of the dirty cops that had since reformed.

This seems a lot like that, but without the dirty cop angle. Of course knowing what Berg likes to do there’s no telling what will happen just yet.
