When an actor screams on set you feel your body tense just a bit since it means that this is an emotional or action-filled moment that demands your attention. They’re pumped up or emotionally charged and are about to say or do something that you need to watch. Sylvester Stallone however usually swings from one side of the spectrum to the other when he starts yelling. There are those rare moments when he’s actually in a good mood and raises his voice, and then there are those when he’s just getting extremely emotional. And then again, there are always those moments when he’s just straining as hard as he can to kick someone’s butt.
Those moments seem like the best of times.
5. Rocky-“Adrian!”
He just got his face bashed in, he lost, and now he’s being swarmed by reporters wanting to get his thoughts on the fight? C’mon guys, there’s one thought in his head and it has nothing to do with fighting. This was the cry that was heard throughout the years as one of the most popular lines and has been used repeatedly in many different contexts since it was first uttered.
4. Oscar-“You guys see anything to be upset about?!”
A lot of people don’t seem to remember this film but it has to be one of the best since it allowed Stallone to really stretch his comedy muscles. Playing a criminal is an interesting change but it’s also something that allowed him to keep to his strengths as a character. He still gets to be the tough guy but the addition of a comedic act is something that, personally, I feel was just great.
3. Judge Dredd-“I am the law!”
It was kind of a flop as a movie but it had a couple of redeeming qualities. For one Stallone was just way too pumped up for this role and his acting wasn’t exactly on par with his costars. It was almost like he tried to take the reins on this one and just veered them way off course. This particular line however was probably one of the best in the entire film.
2. Rocky IV-“Drago!”
So he watches his friend get killed in the ring, mopes around about it, and then decides to go and show Drago that American’s aren’t weak by facing him in a match that would be just another chance for Drago to show how powerful he is. The plot and premise of the story were a bit lacking but hey, it’s Rocky. And you know when he yells out Drago’s name at the end of the training montage that he’s coming for payback.
1. First Blood – “Nothing is Over!”
John Rambo is kind of a sad case. He was just looking for somewhere to rest and get a bite, and he gets pushed out of town by a cop on a power trip that didn’t like the way he looked. That’s a fine way to treat someone that could kill you a dozen different ways or more. And in the end, when it was all over and Rambo was cornered, he had nothing left, only a dim memory of the no surrender attitude that swiftly broke down into an impromptu psychiatry session between Rambo and his commanding officer.
Stallone can yell with the best of them.
