Scorpion: Mark Collins Returns. Quintis and Waige on the Rocks?

Scorpion

The last we saw of Team Scorpion, Toby and Happy tied the knot, Walter and Paige finally got together. Though on this week’s season four premiere of Scorpion, things are about to get tense.

The hour began with Walter and Paige upstairs in the loft. The new couple has consummated their relationship, and Paige asked how her new boyfriend is feeling. I never thought I’d see the day where the entire team would break out in song. The musical number, unfortunately, ended up as a figment of Walter’s imagination, it does put the whole “I’m so happy I could sing” into context.

After coming out of his musically-induced daydream, the genius got a call from the prison. The caller is none other than former Scorpion team member Mark Collins. Wonder what the psychopath is up to now? When Walter and Agent Gallo arrived at the prison, Collins revealed that a minor earthquake has gone off the coast of the Berent Sea. The force of the quake has caused the ice to crack, releasing methane gas into the atmosphere and increase Earth’s temperature. If the temperature continues to grow, then life on Earth will be wiped out save for the insects. Makes you wish you could be a bug right now.

The team then went off to Northern Norway to plug the fissures to prevent the cracks from growing. Agent Gallo got Collins out of prison, who has on an electronic ankle bracelet, before heading to the tundra. Tension emerged amongst the team as they do not trust Collins. The latter assures them that he has changed after going through extensive therapy, but they don’t buy this Collins 2.0 schtick one bit. To be honest, neither do I. Collins would do anything to get people on his side and believe his every word.

Happy and Sylvester attempted to drill a hole in the bottom of the fissure for the nitrogen hydroxide, but an aftershock sent them into a tizzy. Paige had to pull them out using a cable hooked to the truck. Sylvester also lost his band-aid wedding ring in the process, losing his only link to his late wife, Megan. Maybe he can get another one like Happy suggested? I know it doesn’t have the same symbolism as the one before, but it’s better than nothing.

The team managed to contain the methane gas, but Happy discovered that hundreds of methane geysers have opened up. So instead of having days to repair the cracks, they now have hours to save the planet. Before the scene faded to reveal the words “To Be Continued,” Collins utters out the two words that once applied to the dinosaurs: Mass extinction.

Side Notes:

I can’t believe that Collins would get between Quintis and Waige like that! The former said he’s only doing it in good faith, but I have a feeling he’s got other ideas. Yes, Collins saved Toby’s life, and he volunteered to go with Agent Gallo to ditch the truck in the fissure. I still don’t trust the guy. Seeing him get zapped every time brought me a sense of satisfaction, I’m not going to lie.

When Walter told Paige that he doesn’t need to discuss bringing Collins onto the team with her, it irked me a little. Sure, he’s the founder of Scorpion, but Paige is a member of Scorpion as is everyone else excluding Collins. You are not a one-person show, Walter O’Brien, get that through that big brain of yours! I do applaud him, however, for wanting Waige to work out, impromptu dancing/singing aside.

The part where the giant drillbit landed between Toby’s legs made me laugh hysterically. I know it’s not a funny matter but the whole timing of it just cracks me up. Good job, show, good job! I also chuckled when Happy told two jokes in one day, even if the mechanical prodigy was suffering from methane poisoning.

I felt sorry for Sylvester after he had to read his obituary. It seems that no one cared enough about him to put in more meaningful words. That, and they didn’t even mention Megan. His marriage to Walter’s sister was the best thing he ever did, and no one even cared to say it. Poor Sylvester. Things will get better, Sly. Eventually.
