A Cosplay Roofing Service is Launched In Japan

Say whatever you want about the Japanese, but they keep things interesting at times. The idea to launch a cosplay roofing service though seems like something that might need another run across the drawing board. One good thing to note is that the cosplayers will not be doing the roofing, but will instead be there to take some of the edge off of the process. My brain is kind of shorting out just thinking about it, especially the legal implications of it. When you look at the pictures you can see that the roofs they’re on aren’t all that steep, but there’s still an issue of safety that goes along with the costumes and the terrain.

I’m guessing some people must be more enthusiastic about seeing a popular character on their roof alongside a trained and licensed professional than they would be with just the roofer there.   I’m also guessing that people in Japan must not trust their roofers this much if they have to include favorite cosplay characters to spice up the business end of it.

Japan, we love ya but this just seems flat out kooky, no offense. Business and cosplay don’t tend to mix on a regular basis and there’s a pretty good reason why. Aside from the safety concerns it seems like it would unnerve a lot of people to see a pop culture icon standing on top of their roof unless they happen to be dressed like Mario or Luigi. Of course being that those two aren’t professional roofers that might be an issue as well. Overall it’s just a weird idea that someone must have had while drunk or stoned is my guess, but that’s a very liberal guess.

At least it seems like the roofer and the cosplayers are getting along for the most part. I do wonder if they’re up there just peppering him with questions the whole time or shouting down to the homeowners what he’s saying and how much the repairs will be. That seems like kind of a waste of time but if you feel more comfortable with a popular character giving you the details then to each their own really.

I’m sorry but this would bug the heck out of me. As a former tradesman I couldn’t stand the big bosses or the homeowner coming around me to learn what I was doing unless the job was easy enough and there was little to no stress involved. It could be that since this type of work is mostly inspection and estimates that it’s not that hard, which means that they could get away with it with relative ease.

I get the feeling though that a lot of the smiling you’re seeing is for the benefit of the camera and isn’t entirely real. This just seems like a bad idea most of the way around. It’s also a limited deal, meaning that the first ten people to order the service are the ones that get it. That’s the best part of the idea I think.
